Question about the new New Fastpass System.

We are going down at the end of October. I have been trying to figure out how this all works.

Question is; Do we really need to plan out these Fastpass before hand like dinning? Is it detrimental to do it the day you go to a park?
I ask because we have been 5 times in the last 12 years so it isn't as imperative to see and do everything. Our planning these days is just to check to see which parks are good to go to that day and wing it from there.

I was there the week of MLK. MLK weekend being one of the busier days and the following week being a low attendance week.

We could not book in advance because we had not yet purchased our APs. We used the kiosk on our first day and didn't care for it but still managed to get decent FPses.

For the rest of the week, we either booked the previous night or the morning of once we decided which park we felt like going to. We also switched on the fly while in the park. I think there was only one desired FP that we could not get (we were not after TSM, though). We were also pretty happy with our times. I think we got one for later than we planned on staying in the parks but most were good.

So China Mom, can I get them online over the computer, say that morning before heading out? Rather not deal with those kiosks if I can help it.

Its good to get them in advance because if you go at a busy time they go quickly.

So can modify them up until the fast past starts.

We used "day of" Fp+ last month because we entered using CM passes. If you don't mind not riding the most popular rides, you can wait to make Fp+ in the parks and it will save you from standing in the standby lines.

If you do have Fp+ and one of your rides doesn't have a long standby wait, you can ride via standby and then change your Fp+ for another ride or attraction. It's much easier to ask an iPad CM to schedule for you and you will be required to choose three Fp+ even if you don't need all three.

I've been able to modify fastpasses during the window and even after a missed fastpass window. I have cancelled all three in one park and used the app to schedule three different for a different park starting 10 minutes from when I booked them. Keep in mind that everything is changing, though, so what is true now may not be true in October. Also, AP holders can book in advance and off-site guests have been getting some opportunity to book in advance as well. The more people who book in advance, the more you will likely want to book in advance as well. I don't think you need to race at your 60 day mark, but it won't hurt to have an idea of what you are going to do each day and book accordingly. If you change your mind, you can always change your fast passes if others are available.
