Hi Everyone,

I have my kids (13 & 6) both scheduled for the H1N1 shot on Tuesday. I would like to hear from anyone whose kids have also received the shot and would like to know if there were any side effects.

Thank you. i\I am so nervous about this and I am not sure why but I know I can count on my DISFRIENDS for an answer to my question.

Thank you everyone. :goodvibes

DS who is nearly 6 had fever start within a few hours of the shot and it lasted about 24 hours along with some chills.

I had a headache and low grade fever.

My 8 year old had the shot (he has asthma) and had no ill effects. My 5 and 2 year olds had the nasal spray - no ill effects either. HOWEVER, our family did end up getting H1N1 - at WDW - about 8 days after receiving the vaccines. They did not have serious cases, so maybe the shot helped boost their immunity a small bit and made their illness milder. We haven't gotten the second dose for any of them yet - even though the pediatrician recommended it - because there isn't any in our area to be found at the moment. Good luck to you - I'm sure everything will be fine. :)

My sons ages 7 and 9 plus, me, had the shot last friday. We all had no side effects, except for a bit of a sore arm the next day.

My 12 and 16 year old both had the vaccine. One had the shot and the other had nasal mist. This was about three weeks ago. Neither suffered a reaction.

16 y/o dd had her H1N1 shot about two weeks ago. Other than a sore arm, where she got the shot, no adverse effects. She was just fine.

Both my DD and myself thought it was a non issue. Not even the arm soreness we sometimes get with the seasonal flu.

DS13 and I both had the mist. We both felt a little "weird" during the day (kind of like a mild light-headed feeling) but that was it. Until DS said his head felt funny I thought I was imagining it.

The little girl I nanny is 3, and she had the shot. No complaints. Her mom had the mist and she said she felt fine afterwards.

Interesting, you're the not the first I've heard that had the shot and still got H1N1. Hopefully it's just because you didn't have the second dose and not that the vaccine isn't working.

Myself, my DH, my DS11 and DD10 had the shot in October with no effects at all.

But be warned, the vaccine does not guarantee you won't get it anyway. My DD10 had it and ended up hospitalized with Pneumonia and a blood infection. All 4 of us ended up on Tamiflu which also had no side effects (I was really afraid of the Tamiflu).

I wouldn't say the vaccine didn't help because, after all she is now home and when we left MANY kids were still there and much, much sicker. In the end I would totally get the shot for all of us again, but I would absolutely watch my family just as closely as before the shot because when the Pneumonia comes it is as fast as lightening. I lead myself to believe the vaccine would make it so that IF we got the Flu it would be mild. However, with a time line of Flu to blood infection in 3 days the immune system was overwhelmed with or without a vaccine. But again, she is home and the fever broke in 7 days so I think it did help her... who knows how bad it would have been without the vaccine, the Dr's said the ICU has had many kids go from ok to ICU seemingly overnight:sad1:

No vaccine works 100% but for the flu vaccine it takes about 3 weeks to develop full immunity so many people THINK they acquire the flu from the shot but in reality they were just exposed to the virus before they developed their immunity.

Aren't the doctors saying that you don't have full immunity for 2 weeks after the shot - and even longer if you have the 2-dose mist that has to be a minimum of 21 days apart?

The kids and I had the injection. We all were fine after. The injection site never even hurt. DH is suppose to get his today. He tried the day after we did but he could not get it.

My 3 kids got the shot two weeks with no side effects or adverse reactions other than a sore arm for a day.

My boys (12 and 8) got the mist two weeks ago with no side effects. I had the shot last week and I have been fine as well.

My 6yo DDs got their first dose last Saturday. One got the shot, the other the mist. My shot girl complained of a headache Sunday. I don't know if it was related or not, but I gave her some Ibuprofin and she was fine.

Also to avoid arm pain we had her move and wave her arm around till we got home. When we got home 30 minutes later, I offered her some ice and/or ibuprofin for her arm and she said it was fine.

My kids got their first H1N1 shot last month and had no adverse reactions. They were due to get the second dose today, but my inept pediatrician didn't save any doses back for the kids that needed second shots, so they won't be able to get the second dose because H1N1 shot are NOWHERE to be found. I hope one dose is better than no doses.

We've been told that it takes at least 2 weeks for the vaccination to build up the correct immunities.

My 14 y/o son got the shot on 11/14. So far, not one side effect. He said his arm felt weird for a few hours after the shot, but he didn't even have a sore arm the next day.
