Question about Teppan Edo

I was reading somewhere that Teppan Edo isn't ideal for children. What are your thoughts? I remember loving the food here years ago and wanted to take our 2 boys, 3 &7 to eat, but am not interested if it is going to take 2 hours to eat. :confused3

I don't think it was a two hour long meal but it was awhile. They take time to cook in front of you....a little entertainment for the kids I guess. The only thing about it that might not be appealing to little kids is the amount of veggies in the serving & that you share a table with strangers.

But my kids enjoyed it. They were 10 & 12 though.

We've never been to Teppan Edo, but we have a similar hibachi-style place here and the loud banging and cooking fires frightens my 4 yo. So much so that we have to take her to the lobby while they cook, which ruins the fun for us. I don't think that's common though so it may just be my child. I wanted to eat there but I didn't feel like having to take her outside for half the meal, so we're eating with the princesses instead.

We have taken our sons at ages 1,3 & 5 every time they loved the "show" maybe no so much the food but they were entertained the entire time. And it definitely was not 2 hours....you might want to let them know that kids get ice cream for dessert as incentive;)

Almost every time I've been to Teppan Edo, I've seen children at several tables. The cooks are VERY entertaining and quite playful with the kids. Our son has been going there since he was five and he's loved it. He's a rather picky eater, too. Kids on the child's dining plan get their meal served in a dish shaped like a bullet train! It's pretty cool! I kinda wanted my food served in that when I saw it! :cool1:

We didn't go with any children but we were at a "table" with a family that had 7 children and my cousin also took her kids a couple months prior to our trip.

My cousin's children are pretty picky about what they eat. Its pretty much down to chicken fingers, hot dogs, and Slim Jims. But she loves Japanese food so they went anyways. She comments on how surprised she was at how much they ate. In fact when they came home that was the first thing they (the children) wanted to tell me about. One of them (the eldest) even tried sushi (that didn't go over so well, but oh well).

As for the family we sat with, their kids ranged from infant to 12 I believe. They had great kids. They allowed them to choose their own meals. I thought they were very interested by the chefs antics (except one when he did the onion volcano because she is afraid of fire). They ate everything. We were all seated at the same time and we (my ex and I) were out of there I believe in an hour or so. The family stayed a bit longer so their kids could finish off their food.

Great information. Glad to hear that it doesn't usually take 2 hours to dine here. I think the kids will enjoy watching the chef.:)

We've eaten dinner there twice since last summer & neither time did our meal take two hours.

I think it's a fine place for younger kids. The chefs do little things to entertain them!

We went to TE last September when DS was 2. He loved it! I think it took about 1 hour 15 minutes, which was actually a perfect amount of time for us. It didnt feel too rushed and we all got a little rest from the walking and heat, but at the same time we were out of there and pack to the outdoor action in good time!!

We are thinking of going back to WDW again this september and this will be on our list again..DS will be turning 3 the week after our visit.

That's great. My sons will be 3 1/2 and nearly 7. They are already used to dining out and usually do great for an hour or so, and longer if there is entertainment. The younger one wouldn't do well with 2 hours of anything though!:rotfl2:

My kids were 4 & 7 the first time we took them to a hibachi style restaurant and it was a hit with both of them. Teppan Edo is a must-do for our family because ever since that first visit to that type of restaurant, they both ask us to find similar restaurants whenever we travel. Our lunch there didn't take two hours, more like a little over one hour, and the time passes quickly because the kids are so interested in the show that they don't get impatient the way they might at a normal restaurant.

We are taking our 3yo this June for the first time. We figure he will love the show. Thanks for the tip about the volcano onion and the fire. We will watch out for that.:thumbsup2

IMO, if you want a good meal with kids, I'd go here. It entertains them enough throughout the meal that the length shouldn't be a problem.

Great info, we are taking our DS10 and DS 6 and extremely excited to see their reactions. I cannot wait!!!! We are a family of foodies and love this style of cooking.

I think it's a great place to take kids...the chefs really know how to entertain them.

We ate at Teppan Edo in August with our 4 and 6 year olds. My DD (4) LOVED everything - the food, the "show," the food! My DS loved the "show" but he's my picky eater. He was able to get chicken "fingers" (tempura) and the coolest thing was that the kids meal was served in a little monorail!!! I have to find my pictures. I wanted one to take home - LOL! We're going back in June! It's our first TS meal of the week!

My kids have gone here since they were itty bitty's - course it was Tepanyaki then, but they have always enjoyed and not bothered sitting for it. It never took that long and they give you the food a little at a time.
