Question about switching rooms with 2 reservations

Good Morning! Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. We have friends who we are helping to plan a trip by using some of our points. They will need to supplement what we have with a rental from one of the agencies. Will they have to check out and back in again/change rooms if they stay at the same resort and room class? Or is there a way member services can link the two stays so they can just stop at the desk and do the “formal” check in for the 2nd reservation but not change rooms? We’re all just trying to figure out if it’ll be easier for them to either shorten the stay or rent the entire trip from one of the agencies (they’ve been informed about the issues that arose last year with the rental agencies and that the trips are non refundable )?

thank you!

IME, Member Services can seamlessly link reservations made by the same member who has more than one membership. However, when it comes to reservations made by two different members, it can get more complicated. Each owner would need to contact Member Services and have a note placed on the reservation which they control, citing the other reservation number and specifying that they should be treated as a continuing reservation. Even then, it’s a good idea to stop at the front desk on check in day and confirm that the requests have been noted.

If you want a complete maid service, you would need to check out. If you do not need a complete maid service, then it should be possible to tell the Cast Members at the front desk that you have a continuing stay with the same guests on both reservations, and request that you stay in the same room. They should be happy to accommodate, but it is not guaranteed. The 2nd reservation will be in the name of the DVC member who rented you the points through the agency. So be sure they properly record your names on the reservation.

*** See Marionnette's advice above. That is a good idea to get an explicit request from the other owner.

We’ve done this in the past. We linked a reservation on my points to my cousin who had a reservation on her points. (We each individually did reservations with exact names, booking categories) We both had to contact DVC MS and note the other reservation number. This is definitely something they want to have now as DVC doesn’t want to be cleaning two rooms for the same guests so they will probably be happy to have this done. I’m finding I’m getting very good response with DVC MS via chat. They helped me fix many things. Also if you are planning on ME for transport from airport you’ll want to have the reservations linked so you can have a seamless stay and have the ME correct in each side! Hopefully you’ll get a good owner to be accommodating. My sister is happy to do this for the guests she rents to either by herself or through the rental agency that will rent her points for her. I think they should stay longer!! It can be worked out!!

As already mentioned, each member makes sure it is noted on the other one that it is the same group as a continuous stay.

They will indicate there is no guarantee that you won’t have to switch rooms, but I have done several with some nights on one membership and some on my other one and never have. A few years ago, they did make you go to front desk on check out/check in day, but the last time I did it...last December...we did not,

I also do as suggested, whether I have done online check in or not...which you would need to do for both...is stop and the front desk to ensure we have been scheduled for same room because if not, thst is when they would be able to adjust it if possible.

Thank you everyone! And apologies to the mods for having to move the thread!

I did this in December, but through 2 dvc rental agencies- same resort, same room category, 2 different reservations through 2 rentals. I couldn’t link the ressies since I wasn’t the owner, but sent my fax for room request with notes about linking them and then stopped by front desk when I checked in and they had no problems linking for me on arrival. I stayed same room entire time. If it can happen with a rental, I’m sure in your case it will be fine also.
