Question about switching points on a reservation

Hi,

For some reason I am having a hard time remembering if this is possible so I thank anyone who can respond with the answer:

If I make a reservation say at BLT for a studio using my BLT points at the 11 month mark, can I switch to using my AKL points at the 7 month mark for that reservation without without cancelling and rebooking?

No because it then defeats the purpose of owner's Home Resort priority booking window if you could just swap another resort's points for your Home Resort points at 11 months (it'd be same scenario as allowing a member who only has AKV points to book at BLT at 11 month window). The reservation would have to be cancelled and then rebooked using the other resort's points at 7 months or less and during the interim between cancelling the reservation and rebooking with other points there is no guarantee that the particular resort/villa/dates will remain available.

And then of course there's the waitlist. If you cancel, iirc that availability is supposed to go to the waitlist if there's a member waitlisted for that studio at BLT on those particular dates.

Thanks! I thought that was the case, but I am remembering a phone call with MS a few years ago. Perhaps there was availability so a rebook was not an issue.

I'm new to DVC and a little confused here.
Would the same person at MS handle the cancellation of one resort and the re-booking of another as long as it was within the 7 month window?
So my question is if there is availablity while you are on the phone with them, what is your chances of not getting the reservation at you non home resort?

If there is availability, they can usually do it. If there isn't then your cancellation would get rerouted to the wait list queue, which could leave you SOL.
