Question about substitutions on the DP

Ok, we are going on the dining plan in October. We are going to Le Cellier and Yachstman while we are there, and most of the meals come with sides I don't like (mushroom, sweet potato, and that kind of stuff) I prefer a good baked potato or mashed potatoes...will they let you sub these things, including on the dining plan? Thanks!

I can tell you I have been able to substitute my side at LeCellier. I love to get the cream cheese mashed potatoes.

Now I do know that if you are getting the "pre fix" meal (appy, entree and dessert) while on the dining plan, you CANNOT substitute anything.

But just a normal meal, most places will do so.

our experience has been they will let you sub the side that comes with one entree for a side that comes with a different entree. So if your entree choice comes with garlic mashed potatoes, but there's a fish entree that comes with rice and you would rather have rice they would let you switch the garlic mashed for rice. The key is find something you like that is listed as a side on a different entree at that restaurant...but if it's not on the menu anywhere then you probably cannot get it. (if there is no baked potatoes anywhere on the menu they most likely don't even have it in the kitchen.)

BUT for sure they will not let you sub for a food that's listed as a separate dish with a price on the menu. An example would be at Sci-Fi...the burger comes with french fries. Onion Rings are listed on the menu as an appetizer. They will not let you substitute onion rings for your french fries. If there's a different sandwich that comes with cole slaw or potato chips, you could sub the fries for cole slaw or potato chips.

As for the toppings on a steak (like the mushroom filet)... You can get the steak plain, but you can't get something else on top instead.

Now I've never been able to do it at a one credit restaurant, but at the Signatures I have always been able to sub the recommended side from one that's listed at the bottom of the menu under sides. I know at Artist Point I always sub whatever comes with the buffalo with the sweet potatoes listed at the bottom of the menu. At Yachtsman the only sides listed with the steaks are some kind of white potato which I don't eat. They always let me choose from any of the sides listed at the bottom of the menu (I usually choose the mushrooms or spinach:lovestruc). At one credit restuarants they've always let me sub any side that comes with any other entree (but not sides listed at the bottom of the menu).

Le Cellier will follow the one-credit restaurant procedure that Aubiree set out - you can sub for a side that accompanies another entree, but not for a separately priced side.
