Question about Splash Mountain

I keep reading about people getting soaking wet when riding Splash Mountain. Have they changed the ride in recent years to soak you when you come down the drop? I have ridden it many times, but not at all in the last 3 years or so and don't remember anyone getting soaked. Is there a specific part of the boat that gets wet (i.e. front or back)?

Thanks

I have found it depends on the weight ratio... more weight in front wetter all around more is back less wet. They havent changed the hill though to make you more or less wet. I think you get more wet on the cheat shots like the water fall and the mill part.

There are numerous other places during the ride where you can get wet. The most likely place is early in the ride when you are passing beside the big drop and going in the opposite direction. When a boat comes down the big hill, the splash out to the sides gets you.

I don't think anything has changed. I have always found sitting in the front gets you wetter than in the back....AND....sitting on the right gets you wetter than sitting on the left. Other than that, it seems the same to me.

The front is usually the worst. Also you usually get a wet butt from sitting on the wet seats - this can be remedied by sitting on your poncho, or better yet, just wear the poncho if you want to stay dry. All in all, Splash doesn't soak you nearly as bad as Kali at AK.:D

We just got back from WDW and my 4 year old DD loved this ride so much that we rode it at least 8 times.

You really can get wet in three places - first, in the area next to the big drop, second, on the big drop, and third, at the end of the ride next to a waterfall.

I do not think it matters if you sit in front or back - the front may get a bit wetter on the big drop but the back tends to get hit harder at the other two places.

As to the weight issue - I do not think this matters either - was on the ride more than once when large people were in front (including me) and did not see any difference in how wet you got.

The biggest change that WDW can make to prevent getting to wet is to alter the timing of when the boat passes the area next to the big drop and also the amount of water going over the waterfall at the end. Since we were at WDW at the end of Jan. during record cold snap, the ride operators did make such changes and on several occasions we did not get very wet at all.

We've ridden lots of times. I don't think we've ever gotten more than just a little wet.

I rode it on Friday with 2 friends, we were the only ones in the log, it was early and raining a little. Since we already had our ponchos on for the rain, they came in handy. We had 1 in the front and 2 in the second seat, including myself (on the right). Lucky I had the poncho on because I got a big splash, the front of my hair was dripping.

I've probably ridden Splash about 50 or so times since it opened. On my last trip I got absolutely soaked! I looked like I had jumped in a pool! It seems to me that in the last two years or so the splash factor has increased. Sopping from head to toe. In the 90s I got a little bit of a splash on my face but that was about it. Thankfully I didn't have my BRAND NEW digital camera with me the last time I rode otherwise it would have been ruined! My mom had her passport inside her fanny pack and it was soaked! I was not happy after that ride. Totally unexpected! Whatever you do don't bring electronic equipment (video, cameras) if you don't need to. If you do make sure they are well protected from moisture otherwise you might have $1000.00 go down the drain.
