I am flying Song out of JFK to Florida and just read that they allow up to 50lbs as check in and you have to pay for additional weight. I never had a problem with my luggage before on any of the other airlines, how strict are they with the weight?
I have 2 small children and I was going to try and pack one suit case to make it easier in the airport but maybe I should pack 2 lighter ones?

NY Times travel section just had an article regarding airline luggage limits. They said airlines are starting to enforce the weight restrictions. With fuel prices high and fares still low they are looking at the money they charge for overweight bags as an additional revenue stream.

I'd go with two lighter bags. A lot of the better made bags weight 15-20 pounds empty.

The European discount airlines are worse. Ryanair limits you to around 32 pounds for all your checked luggage combined and limits your carryon to around 20 pounds.

They are strictly enforcing weight limits. We had to lighten and repack one large bag to avoid the penalty. Better to check additional luggage than go throught that curbside inconvenience again.
