Question about some darker rides

I'm going to Disney today and my younger sister has always been afraid of rides that are pitch black. She wants to go on expedition everest, space mountain, rock n rollercoaster, big thunder mountain, splash mountain and buzz lightyear space ranger spin. We have looked at videos of them on YouTube but can't really tell if the ride is completely pitch black. She's fine on dark rides but not pitch black. So if anyone can tell me if those rides are pitch black that would be greatly appreciated.

Space Mountain is probably the darkest - it's pretty much totally dark. The others may have intermittent areas where it's darker, but all of Space Mountain will be dark.

Expedition Everest is an outdoor roller coaster, but it has spots where it goes inside the mountain and is nearly pitch black. So it's a mix.

Space Mountain and Rock N Rollercoaster are completely indoors and completely dark basically start to finish, so she may want to skip those.

Big Thunder is also outdoors, with very minimal indoor portions, which aren't pitch black. I think she'd be OK with this one.

Splash Mountain has long areas of indoors, but most of it is lit. There is one small drop that is in the pitch dark, otherwise you can always see. Also think I'd give this one the green light.

Buzz you can always see what you're shooting at, and some spots are fairly well lit...and it's a slow moving ride anyway. Definitely worth doing.

Pitch black would be Space. That's the only completely dark ride

Expedition Everest is dark for about 10 seconds. Rock n rollercoaster is all indoor and is lit up by black lights and street signs. It's not completely pitch black, you can always see the track and stuff lit up, but it is fairly dark. Big thunder, splash, and buzz are all fine and not anywhere near pitch black

I have to think the pitch black combined with going backwards (on Everest) might be hard for her.

Space mountain is the one I'd definitely leave off. I'm not very afraid of pitch dark and love roller coasters, but even space mountain scares me because of how dark it is :sad1: While RnR and Buzz Lightyear are kind of dark, they both have that neon black light scenery that you can see. Hope you have a great time!

Thank you everyone for all the responses, I will tell her about space mountain.

I kinda disagree that Space Mountain is "pitch black" you can see stars everywhere. You can not see the ride track or anything else (unless you can parse which stars line the track and which ones are on other parts). There are some projections too.

I agree with this, while it isn't a prolonged period of time going backwards or being in the dark, it can be disorienting for a moment. When I first rode this ride I thought we were going upside down and the going backwards really bothered my DS the first few times. After several rides and knowing what's coming, it's one of our favorites in all of WDW.

PoTC also has a small pitch black drop.

You're right in that it's not 100% pitch black where you see absolutely zero the entire time. PeopleMover has a few spots like that were I literally see noting at all. However, on the sum of it, I'd call Space Mountain and RnR "dark" rides...probably the darkest in the parks.

at the being of MTMRR ( it really depends on when you ride too if your eye are used to the bright sun and they have not fully adjusted yet ) then the being can be pitch black for about 10 seconds or so.

For DS, I buy him the glow sticks. This helps with the dark rides because he can always look down & still see and they aren't bright enough that they bother anyone else. Maybe this would help some.

My daughter is really sensitive to things like this - Space Mountain was a big mistake for us. SOBBED afterwards. Not only is it dark, but because of how you are seated, she was basically in the dark by herself - no way for me or my husband to hold onto her or comfort her. She was upset after Everest too - also because of the dark - but got over it about 10 minutes later because I was able to hold her hand through it. The Space Mountain debacle took us HOURS to calm down from. After that, she decided to skip RnR AND Pirates - both rides she had been looking forward to - because she was so freaked out. She did LOVE Big Thunder though - we rode it 3 times. Because it's mostly outside, she could see what was coming. She also loved Splash & Buzz.

EE - moments of darkness with longest being the backwards section
SM - practically dark the entire ride, some distant lighting but you can't see around you or in front of you unless there is some lighting happening somewhere that isn't supposed to. (and having ridden in full lights on mode, glad it's dark)
RnR - dark rooms but neon signs and track lighting throughout so even though you don't see much you don't feel it's dark
BTM - dark through the "tunnel" at the very beginning but very short
SM - no, there are low lighting but no darkness
BUZZ - not all all

The dark does not really bother me but I had a huge issue on Space Mountain and EE. Not being able to see the track was hard for me. I refuse to go on these 2 again. I might be able to hand the dark on EE (because it is not long) but going backwards at the same time is too much.

Everest goes dark, but only for a few seconds at a time. Space Mountain on the other hand....whoo, if she's got issues with it going pitch black, she might want to avoid that one

Haunted Mansion also goes dark in the stretching room. The ride itself is fine, but that brief moment of darkness freaked me out the first time I rode it.
