Question About Simulator Rides

We are going to UO/IOA for our first time this December. I am pretty much a wimp when it comes to riding rides, plus motion sickness really bothers me. I have never ridden simulator rides before and was wondering if you can still feel the motion if you close your eyes. For example, on the Simpson's Ride if you close your eyes at the big drop on the end (I watched the video on YouTube), will you still have the sensation of falling? I didn't know how much of the sensation is tied into what you are seeing on the screen vs. the simulator movement.

I usually end up not riding hardly anything, if at all, when we go to amusement parks. If I can close my eyes & not experience the sensation when it gets intense then I should be ok. Heck, I'm even worried about riding the train through Seusville! :lol

I would also like to know how much spinning is involved in the MIB ride?

Thanks :)

check out some of the rides that have been posted on youtube.

i hate to give out info as i don't know if your thoughts of "too much spinning" is the same as mine.

the spinning at the end of MIB is fast. kind of like being on a teacup ride.

you are distracted on that spinning due to the fog at the end.

if your exhaust is hit during the ride after the middle screen section, your car will spin.

Thank you for the response. :) I have looked at some of the YouTube videos (I love previewing them), that is where I saw the video for The Simpson's Ride. I can't tell from the video if closing my eyes (I am such a chicken) would mean I couldn't feel the drops in the ride. If I can still feel it, I probably won't ride.

Thanks for the info on MIB.

I was hoping someone could answer the question!

How much do they simulators move? Do they only move back and forth, or do they raise up off of the ground?

Spiderman moves off the floor...mainly side to side but does go up and down...a little. The Simpsons does the same thing but it's not as jerky...although The Simpsons ride does throw you around in spots. I don't know if you would feel the same things if you closed your eyes...I don't close mine. ;)

My DH also gets motion sick on spinny type rides, but loves the coasters.

He didn't mind Spider Man too much, but Jimmy Neutron left him sick. So, take some Dramamine and you will be fine.

You should be fine on MIB--you will be more intent on getting a great score.

If you have done Buzz Light Year ride at Disney, then it is something like that but wayyyyy cooler.

Thanks :) I was planning on sitting in stationary seating on Jimmy Neutron.

I have done Buzz Light Year at Disney (it's one of the few things I actually ride). My dd told me the MIB has a big scary spider at the end, is this true?

could be, don't remember from all the spinning that happens then......jk

i kill myself......

JFTR, I'm not worried about the spider for myself. I was wondering if it would scare young kids.

Yes, there is a spider-like monster overhead near the end that I think you enter it's mouth or under it's belly, but to be honest, there's so much fog you can only see a bit of it.

Right...I doubt they would see it through the fog.

Hiya -
my scaredy cat 2 were not scared by MIB - even the spidery beast - which we could see clearly! They were scared by Shrek though.... and definitely by spiderman ride!!!!! They always choose to ride something once, then let me know if they would do it again....

As to the sim rides - I get BAD motion sickness and find that closing my eyes doesn't help, but if you look around you will see a line at the edge of the movie screen area, or look down and see the floor edge etc and if you start to feel queasy, look to the edges and focus on them, it settles things down really quick.

The kids even got me on Star Tours 7 times this year, and that one really used to set me off... On the way out I had to pass the spot where I left my lunch last time and DH loved pointing it out to the kids - all 7 times!!!!!

Thanks for the replies, and especially to Tessa for the info about focusing on the edges.

Would you say being 'jerky' about the same as driving fast on a really rough road? I had back surgery 3 yrs ago and don't want to do anything that's close to feeling like whiplash!

I would say so but what I think as jerky may not be what someone else thinks. If you can stand a rough ride on a dirt road or something like that, you should be OK but you'll have to decide for yourself. Sorry I can't be more help.

I have harrington rods in my spine and hip and Simpson's ride doesn't bother me at all; but everyone is different. I've found that I have more trouble (horrible pain) with lap bars in wooden rollercoaster then in rides like hulk and dragons. Honestly my husband had more trouble in the simpson's ride he's 6'2 and we sat in the back. He ended up bumping his head on top part of the ride and ended up with a horrible headache. So if you are tall make sure you sit in the front.

On Spiderman, if you feel sick, take off the 3D glasses and you will feel fine. Spiderman is actually moving along a track so it isn't totally a simulator. For Shrek I feel no motion sickness whatsoever and Jimmy Neutron I find that looking to the side eases any sickness. I haven't ridden Simpsons yet, so I can't help you there.

I find that the best thing to do is to take Dramamine the night before of morning of day at the parks.
