Question about rules

Maybe a silly question, but I was wondering, when doing the college program are you allowed to talk to your co workers while working, or is this one of the rules that you're told to follow. I ask because at my previous jobs, you're usually not allowed to talk while working, and only on breaks. I can't find the answer to this anywhere. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I worked as a merchendise cast member in Toontown, and they didn't mind if we chatted, but they wanted us to (understandably) focus on the guests and talk with them. If it was dead and we were setting up for MNSSHP or cleaning up at night, they didn't mind if we talked and stuff as long as we got our work done. Our managers and supervisors were super nice, and knew we were people who needed to have fun and relax too, lol. There was honestly not a lot of down time where we could chat, we were always busy. They kept us moving from task to task every hour or so, and each possition was a busy one with a constant stream of guests to interact with. (this system really keeps you from getting bored through the day and really keeps you interested! It was great )

There are also roles where you are mostly behind the scenes (a few food service roles like plating/prep) or alone (like custodial) where you either can't talk to other cast members or it doesn't matter if you do as long as your work got done in a timely matter.

This really shouldn't be a problem. If there aren't guests at hand to be focused on (e.g. it's just you and coworkers in an area and no guests are passing by) then it isn't a problem whatsoever. But if there are guests actively coming through, you should acknowledge them, and DEFINITELY NOT ignore them in favor of talking to your coworker- it can come across as a little rude, and doesn't have that Disney cast member 'magic'.

so bottom line: you're definitely allowed to talk to your coworkers while working. Just don't talk to them over talking to guests.

And remember, cast and guest safety is always more important than a conversation with your co-workers. This doesn't mean you have to be completely silent any time you're at a safety critical position, but you should keep your conversations related to the task at hand. For example, asking a co-worker who is "grouping" an attraction to save seats for a make-a-wish family that just came up through the exit is fine, asking them where you want to go for dinner after work can wait until break time.
