Welcome to the DIS, BeauBeau,
I think that it would partially depend on what you mean by "normal" suite. The ones that I would consider "normal" would be the classic and the residential. The classic has two queen beds (one in each bedroom) and the residential has a king bed. The kidsuite has a king bed in the adult bedroom, and bunk beds and themed walls in the kids room.
So the benefit to the kidsuite over the classic is that you get a king bed instead of 2 queens, plus since the kidsuite has bunk beds in the extra bedroom instead of a queen bed there's more empty floor space where you could put a crib. The residential has a larger kitchenette, but only one bedroom, not two.
Although there are more kidsuites around the family pool, all the suites are spread around the property, so you can simply request which area you would like to be near (ie the family pool/kids pool, lobby etc) and hopefully you can get a room somewhere around where you would like. They do take requests, but they're not guaranteed.
The various suites are often each a little different in price, so since they may be different in price, or may be sold out of the kind of suite you want when you arrive at the hotel, you might want to confirm the type you want early just so as to not be disappointed.
You may want to check out the official website:
www.hifamilysuites.com and you can see sample room layouts and pictures of the kidsuites.
