Question about room requests

I have a question regarding room requests- how far in advance of our arrival should we fax a request to the hotel for a particular location- i.e. floor, or building? Do we fax the hotel directly? Sorry for the probably obvious questions, but this is our first trip to WDW and we know nothing, lol.

Personally I would save your money. Most of the water view rooms it is very hard to see the water from your room. Since you don't have a balcony to sit on it is hard to see the water when you are sitting down in the room.

Waterview can be first or second floor.

Save the money for some extra dinners or something.

Most of the resorts are ignoring faxes these days. If you have some requests call central reservations and have these requests added to your reservation. When you get to the resort you can also ask the CM for any requests that you have at that time. They try to grant your requests but remember it is only a request and you will have a great time.

Thanks for your reply- I think you must've been posting it right when I was editing my first post to take out the question about the locations of the water view rooms. I suddenly realized that you can get upper floor water view rooms, so I didn't want to leave up the (what I thought) was a silly question But, I do appreciate your response- and thanks for the tip on the faxes, too!

You need to call the hotel directly 4 days before arrival (the day they do rooms) and tell them your request.It is still not guarnted though but I did get my room.

Just keep in mind that many of the resorts are ignoring faxes. By faxing your request you risk not getting them.

They have to match up your fax to your reservation. If the requests are already in the reservation no matching is needed.

So, the best thing to do is to call the hotel directly, as Jasminesmommy suggested, or CRO for the requests? I'm assuming that when I call to make the reservations, I can also give them my room request at that time too- then follow-up with a phone call four days prior?

We had put in a room request when we made our reservation. Notwithhstanding that, I faxed the Poly 4 days in advance (today) to reiterate our room request. We will see what happens, I'll let you all know.

I have another room request question. We are an extended family with 4 rooms at the AsMo in Nov. When I made the reservations (all under my name) I asked that the rooms be close by each other. They said they can not guarantee this. I was wondering if anyone had also done this what results they had.

If it is in your reservation there is no need for a phone call 4 days before arriving.

I have let them know that there are several rooms in our party a couple of times and they did get them very close to us. One time we were all next to each other. Another time we were very close.

Have that noted in your reservation also. You can always ask again at check in.

Based on information shared by friends that work at Disney resorts I agree with Safetymom.

Actually the information on your reservation made with CRO including any requests is downloaded into the resort computer as early as 7 days out. There is no specific day this happens. It happens as they get to them. Also if you fax or call you run the risk the person who took the fax or call will not even be working on the day the rooms are assigned. Therefore your requests will be overlooked completely.

If you have your requests noted on your reservation with CRO then regardless of who is assigning rooms your information is there in the computer for them to see.

Just an update: I just got off the phone with CRO and made my room-only reservations for next April at the POFQ. I noted all my requests with the CM, first asking for a non-smoking room (which I found out they don't just come out and ask you if you want- for some reason I had assumed they would) and then I asked for a top-floor room. He verified with me that he was typing in both requests, in fact, he told me he was wording my top-floor request two different ways- as a top-floor/2nd floor room (which is considered the top floor since I had booked a water-view room). He said he did that because different wording worked with different people, depending on who was assigning the rooms later. When he summed up my entire reservation before we hung up, he again read off all my room request preferences. I felt pretty good that the room controller will have that information when the time comes- thanks again for all the advice!

I've always made my room requests when I make my reservation, then I usually fax my requests 4 days prior, then call the day before I leave to confirm my requests. Since I'm reading that the resorts are not taking fax requests, I've made my requests over the phone already to CRO, but will call again about a month prior to confirm it's in the system with CRO, then call Pop 4 days out to confirm with them, then reconfirm on check-in.

In the past, I've always received my requests with the faxes. Last year I had to wait a little past normal check-in for the exact room I wanted, but only because they were cleaning the carpets.
