I have a reg. room reservation for 3 nights @ BCV in Sept. through Disney reservations (not through DVC using points). Is it possible to have this ressie converted (with the help of a DVC member) using their points? I'm afraid to cancel and lose it but would rather use points for it if I can get them.

Thanks!!

No, it's not possible to convert.

You could attempt to rent a ressie through a member (slim chance probably at this late date), and then cancel your cash ressie if you don't have penalties to worry about.

I'd be 100% sure the DVC ressie was carved in stone before I canceled the cash ressie.

Very strange, LATE Fri. afternoon there were no available ressies but this AM there were at least 2 studios available for the time frame I wanted 8/31-9/3.

If you were able to check today, they are NOT rooms that can be reserved with points. Member Services is not open on weekends. The only rooms that can be checked and/or reserved on Saturdays would be rooms that can be reserved for cash. If cash rooms were not available Friday, but are on Saturday, they were likely cancellations.

I agree with JimMIA, the likelihood of anything being available on points at this late date is slim to none. The only option would be if a member had a standing reservation that they were going to cancel and they rented you the reservation as is.

Yeah, I had a DVC member check late Fri and nothing avail. then I called regular Disney reservations (cash) and there are rooms available?????

Cash rooms at DVC resorts thru CRO become available when DVC members use their points for non-DVC options like the Disney Cruise or a stay at the GF. CRO uses those points to make reservations at DVC resorts for cash rentals to the public. Once the points have been used by DVC members in this fashion, those rooms can no longer be reserved using points and thus are not available to members using points.

The inventory you now find online (even thru services like expedia and travelocity) are available in this fashion. These are not rooms taken from the member inventory - but have been "given" to CRO by members in order to pay for their use of points for non-DVC options.

OK, now I understand, doesn't seem fair to DVC member that wants to go on vacation and is unable to even though there's rooms available.

In addition- any unreserved DVC rooms in the last 60 days are also available to CRO for cash reservations (MS also has access to those rooms for point reservations). The income created from this "breakage" inventory is credited to the DVC budget to offset our annual fees.

There are 3 resources for the rooms available thru CRO and 2 of those are exclusive to CRO and not usually available to members for point reservations. DVD holds 2-4% at each resort- to maintain inventory when villas are taken out-of-service for rehab and maintenance. If not used for that purpose, they can be rented thru CRO- the number actually rented is small as most are needed for the stated purpose. The second resource comes from points used by members for non-DVC options and the third is the "breakage" period where CRO and MS have access to the rooms- but members are definitely competing with others for those rooms.

Without the ability for CRO to rent DVC accommodations, we would not have the ability to use our points for the non-DVC options since that's how payment is made to those organizations for their accommodations.

Last year I was able to cancel a cash reservation at pop century after I had rented points for a stay at saratoga springs. I even forgot to cancel by the deadline (a couple of days before our arrival), and they still refunded my credit card.
