Question about reservations and such...

Hello,

I recently booked a vacation to Walt Disney World, and I have a few questions falling into the dining category. I have been to WDW about 6 times before, so I have some general knowledge of what is there. We will be staying in the Orlando area 2 weeks, from August 15th-28th. I had a few dining selections in mind and was wondering when would be a good time to make reservations... right now or a bit down the road? We were planning to try and hit these locations:

1. Chef Mickey's Character Breakfast - Breakfast Buffet
2. Cinderella's Royal Table - Dinner
3. Tony's Town Square Restaurant - Lunch or Dinner? (What's the best time to go?)
4. Le Cellier - Dinner
5. What's a good place to eat at Hollywood Studios? I have been to Sci-Fi... but what's best? Brown Derby? 50's Prime Time? Fantasmic Dinner Package?
6. Not sure about Animal Kingdom dining... but maybe when the park closes we could head to Boma? Reccomendations?
7. Rainforest Cafe
8. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
9. Fuddruckers
10. Smokey Bones BBQ

Any help would be really appreciated because I am trying to make a calendar to hang on our resort fridge of which park to visit that day, place to eat, etc. Oh, and feel free to make a recommendation that maybe I haven't listed that you think is good... thanks a bunch!

Pick up the phone and call NOW! Reservations are accepted 180 days in advance and most of the places on your list are probably booked solid already for your time period. The number is 407-WDW-DINE. Good Luck!

My first recommendation is to make reservations as soon as possible. August is a busy time and there may not be very much availability for those times when people ordinarily eat. Reservations can be made up to 180 days before-hand and many people book several months in advance.

As for your choices, these pages have great suggestions for restaurant and you can get a good feel for what people enjoy most. There are also websites that have the menus so you can see what kind of fare they serve.

I would be on the phone like time my eyes open, and from someone who knows call, call, call, I have called sometimes 3&4 times a day and it has paid off, so dont be down if you cant get the one's when you call, just keep at it also go to the thread where people are trading and canceling ADR's the time you are going is free dinning at that ship has the ADR's on lock down so just keep at it, I hope you get your share of PIXIE DUST!!! Unforunately all those are pretty much guaranteed to be booked up except for maybe brown derby or tonys

I called and are set for Chef Mickey's, Tonys, and Le Cellier... can't seem to get the royal table though... I will keep trying.

Consider yourself quite lucky to have gotten what you did! Le Cellier usually books way in advance!

Alright! This is great, I really didn't expect to get into most of the locations I wanted, but it turns out that it wasn't that difficult. I called the Dine Line (470-WDW-DINE) and Kathy, a very helpful and nice Cast Member helped me. So this is how our juggled dining plan is set:

August 2008 Simple Schedule:

15th - We check into Silver Lake Resort and hang around the pool, get groceries, and head over to Downtown Disney for a night at Disney Quest, and then head over to the Rainforest Cafe afterward.
16th - After Animal Kingdom Park closes at 8:00pm we're heading to Boma for a 8:25pm dinner.
17th - At 8:30pm in the Magic Kingdom we'll be heading for an encahnted meal at Cinderella's Royal Table.
18th - At about 9:00pm, when Hollywood Studios closes, we will be skipping Fantasmic! and heading on over to the California Grill at the Contemporary for dinner at 9:40pm to catch Wishes! once again from our table at 10:00pm.
19th - When we wake up we'll be heading to the Contemporary once again to enjoy a character breakfast with Mickey & the gang at Chef Mickey's at 10:40am. Then after we'll be heading to Blizzard Beach.
20th - We will be at Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure today, and grab dinner at Bubba Gump Shrip Co. at park closing.
21st - We will be at EPCOT for the day and catch a 12:15pm lunch at Le Cellier.
22nd - Today we will not be at a theme park of any kind as we will be checking out of the Silver Lake Resort, and into the Vacation Village at Parkway to play in the pool and go to Fuddruckers for their world famous hamburgers.
23rd - Typhoon Lagoon day, then we'll be getting a dinner somewhere in the Orlando area like Texas Longhorn or Outback Steakhouse, etc.
24th - We will be returning to Disney's Hollywood Studios for a day of movie magic and topping it off with the Fantasmic! Dinner Package. We'll be eating at Hollywood & Vine at 4:10pm and going on more attractions, then heading to the 9:00pm showing of Fantasmic!
25th - SeaWorld is the destination, and after a day of sealife adventures we will be going to Smokey Bones BBQ in the Orlando area.
26th - A day of magic again at Magic Kingdom with a simple lunch at Pecos Bills Tall Tale Inn & Cafe.
27th - EPCOT again, with another simple lunch at the Land Pavillion.
28th - Well, you must be able to tell that we love the Magic Kingdom Park alot, because that's where we will be today. This is the last day at Disney World so I thought I would top it off with a magical original. With dinner in Town Square at Tony's Town Square Restaurant.
29th - Checking out of Vacation Village early this morning and catching a emotional flight home. Bye Disney, we will meet again!

So that's it, kinda dissapointing that SpectroMagic! will not be playing anytime in August... do any of you know it that is really true? I thank you all for helping me get my hand to the dialing pad and calling Disney for the dining I did get, I am very lucky and my family should be pleased to hear they get so many magical experiences with dining. Thanks again all!

Sorry for the double-post, but it turns out we don't have a place in the Orlando area to eat one night... could someone reccomend a favorite with them? I was wondering if one of you could post a little info about your favs? To help me and my family decide? (We will be near Universal Studios then) Thanks.

as far as Spectromagic, it's on this calender, I haven't heard about them not having it in August, I really hope that's not true, it's my favortie parade!

Yea its on the DIS info, but earlier I looked on the WDW site and it listed the day parade and Wishes! I will be taking my life-long friend for the very first time so I wanted it to be the most magical experience for him. But I am pretty sure they would have the parade on as well because I went last year around the same time and they had it almost every night, you think Carousel of Progress is open though?

There will be no Spectromagic from August 15-29th while repair is done on a bridge in the park. I would assume the calendar here needs updated as the parade is not scheduled on Disney's website.
