Next month I will have to make my first reservation and I have a doubt. I have bought a 150 point contract with June UY coming with 300 points in 2016 (150 banked from 2015 and 150 from current UY).

If I want to spent around 150 point in September 2016 and 300 points in September 2017... Do I have to bank 2016 points before make the reservation or can I make a new reservation and bank the points later?

A September 2017 reservation would be in your 2017 use year so 2016 points would have to be banked to be used.

The points need to be in the UY required at the time you make the reservation. For your hoped for Sept 2016 reservation. Have you closed on your purchase? If so you should book asap if you know when you want to go as that is only 4+ months out. When you book that you will want to use the banked 2015 points. Anytime after June 1st you will be able to bank the 2016 points into your 2017 UY which will need to be done before you can use them for a Sept 2017 reservation which you will be able to make the reservation in Oct.

Are you wanting to make a reservation for a trip in September 2016? You can make it now. No need to wait until June.

If you are asking whether you must bank those June 2016 points before making your first reservation for Sep 2016 to assure those are not used for that first trip, then the answer is no. If you call to make the reservation for this Sep, just make sure you tell the rep that you want to use the already banked 2015 points for that trip -- MS will usually automatically use already banked points first but it helps to always mention it in the event you have a newly hired rep who does not know all the usual practices yet. If you instead do that first reservation online, the system will use the banked points first.

Then, to use the June 2016 points for your Sep 2017 trip, you will have until Feb 2017 to bank those points but if you make the reservation earlier than that you must bank them before doing so to be able to use them for the Sep 2017 trip.

Just to be clear, the points need to be available in your account for the dates of your stay, not the date that you make the reservation. You can book your home resort 11 months prior to check in date or 7 months at your non-home resorts.

Yes! That was the answer for my question... that I didn't know to ask reading all answers.

So, if I have banked point and current UY points and make an online reservation, I will use banked points first, so I will be able to bank current UY points if I don't spend all my points.

Thanks!!

If you do it online the system will default to using the banked points first, but it doesn't hurt to check. It's pretty clear on where the points are coming from.

I would hold off banking the points until you're ready to make the reservation for next September (which you should be doing in October, well before your banking deadline) just to make sure you don't have a reason to change your plans before then. You can't un-bank points if you change your plans.

One of the odd things about using a DVC membership is that even with annual trips you're literally planning your next vacation as soon as you finish your trip. if you decide to go multiple times a year you're planning a couple trips ahead.

The order of point use for a reservation is: banked, borrowed, transferred, and current.

Hi Raul.

The following is the sort of answer I would want if I had this question. the others have answered in other ways, but I would need the following to make my brain happy.

First, if this is your contract fully already, just make the 9/16 reservation now. You don't need to wait. Unless it's not totally yours yet. :)

If you're waiting b/c you think it needs to be June to use the points, that thinking isn't correct. Otherwise the 11 month booking window wouldn't make sense.

I booked a February 2017 trip at my home resort back in March of 2016, using Feb UY 2017 points. If I had to wait until the points were "there", I couldn't have booked until February 2017 for that February 2017 trip. Makes no sense, right?

150 2015 June UY points were already banked to be 2016 points: book your 150 point 9/16 reservation with those.

150 2016 June UY points can be banked to the 2017 June UY to use for your 300 point September 2017 reservation along with your "natural" 150 2017 June UY points.

Bank the 2016 points or don't; as you go through the booking process read the vital info on each page so you know it's being taken correctly.

Actually, it's borrowed first, then banked, transferred, and current. Though I think online you can't use transferred unless they match your home resort & uy.

Pretty sure that this is different than what MS told me.
