Hi everyone! We rented points from a friend and will be staying at AKL in the Kidani section in a 1 bedroom standard villa this August. We're very excited about our first DVC stay, this is kind of a trial run for buying our own :thumbsup2 I'm a bit nervous, however, as my health is not the best. I have multiple diseases/disorders and also am handicapped as a result of a car accident some years back. I'm concerned about getting around. I'd prefer to try it without a scooter and just take it easy but AKL is rather large and spread out and I am wondering if I make a request to be close to the lobby and services, will that be honored or am I asking too much? How should I word such a request? Should I just come right out and tell them I am handicapped, use a handicapped parking tag at home, etc...? I don't need the facilities of a handicapped room but the more I walk the harder it is on me and towards the end of our trip it will be worse as I will be worn down. Thoughts? Advice? Opinions? Thanks in advance :)

Tell your friend to call and make the request with member services. It's better to make the request early and only members can deal with member services.

Have him/her let them know that you have mobility issues and prefer a room near the lobby. You may also want to request a room on the 2nd floor.

Yes, second floor is the floor the lobby and gift shop is on so many people consider it the main level. The front of the building comes up to the second floor, but the back of the building is two stories above the ground, hence a main lobby on the second floor.

thank you for your help, I appreciate it!
