If I rent points from a DVC member, can I request two studios side by side? It seems to be a lot cheaper than renting a 2 bedroom but I don't want my teens too far away from me!

To my knowledge, there are no DVC resorts with studios side by side. They all will have at least a 1 bedroom portion between them, since studios are locked off portions of a 2 bedroom. Another thing you need to consider is that there MUST be at least one person over the age of 18 in each unit. You will need to give the names, addresses and ages of all people in each room when the reservation is made, and Disney will not allow you to put 4 teens in a room without one "Adult". Depending on WHICH DVC resort, you could actually be on different floors, different buildings, etc, etc,. Locations are requests, but are not guaranteed.

Besides that, you lose out on the real advantages of DVC. You would not have the kitchen, laundry, living room etc, etc.

There are some dedicated studios in VWL that are back to back. In particular, the dreaded dumpster-view rooms are two dedicated studios. (And you all thought there was no good reason to request dumpster view). There is also one pair of lock-off 2BR where the studios are back-to-back for some reason.

I just throw this out as triva. As a practical matter, there are essentially no adjoining studios in the DVC system.

Thanks, my oldest daughter is 18, but I don't know if I'd want to be really far away from my kids! It's something to think about.

I just returned and had 3 studios (with family) all side-by-side.

It is possible!:thumbsup2

Studios "close by" are a request - and some people have reported a sense of humor about what "close by" means to the checkin CMs. Right above you on a different floor? Same floor, halfway down the hall?

As far as I know, there are also a few studios in BCV that are adjacent (though not connected). One dedicated studio next to a lock-off as I recall. In addition, I believe that at some resorts, some of the lock-off studios abut with the 1BR on opposite sides for each studio. We took DFIL to WDW and had two studios at BCV that were directly across the hall from one another. At OKW, we were at opposite ends of the same building on the same floor.
