Question about renting points?

I apologize if this isn’t allowed but, I’m new to dis boards (not new to Disney lol) and I’m wanting to see if I can get as much information as possible before the time comes. We have always stayed on property at DL and DW but, just learned about renting DVC points after returning from our trip 3 weeks ago.
We have two young boys who we want to bring back to DW next December 6 to December 12 or 13 (or 11/29-12/4 or 5)
We are hoping to stay either at the Cabins at FW or get a one bedroom at AK (any view, any building). I was hoping you guys could guide me a bit; is it better to try to go direct through these boards or is it better to go through someone like David’s? I know David’s has a markup and I’m unsure if having a DVC member with points available already “ready” when booking opens up is a better option? Is there a way to already work that out with a member for them to be on the lookout to book come the 11 month mark?
Thanks so much!

There is no right or wrong answer it is just going to be with what you are most comfortable with. If you did decide to rent from someone here on the rental board you will need to make a few more posts first. The reason being is after you have posted 10 times you will then have access to the private message system which you could then use to share your family’s names and address which is required when making a DVC reservation with the individual you are curious of renting from.

Are you from the US? If so and you wish to rent from David’s you will need to make sure you have a credit card that doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee. David’s has great customer service but if you don’t have one of those cards (many from capital one don’t charge foreign transaction fees) you will pay an extra 3% as they are based in Canada and would trigger the foreign transaction fee.

The earliest anyone would be able to secure a reservation for you would be 11 months out IF they owned at the resort you are trying to stay at. That means the DVC member would need to own AKL or CFW and could book it for you on 12/29/25 or 1/6/26 depending on which dates you decide on. Members who don’t own at those locations can book it for you 7 months from check-in day if it is still available.

I believe you can submit your dates early to David’s and the board sponsor early so that they can reach out to members who own at those locations.

The other thing to note is that CFW has not been for sale that long therefore there are not that many owners at that location so AKL might be the safest option of your two choices for actually being able to secure a room for you.

That then brings up another question. AKL has two DVC offerings. Jambo is in the main hotel building where Kidani is a DVC Room type only building (no standard hotel rooms). You can walk or take the internal bus between buildings. Kidani 1 bedroom units have an extra full bathroom where Jambo does not. Jambo has a QS meal location but Kidani does not. Both have pools but Kidani has a nice splash pad area but again you could visit this if staying at Jambo it’s just not as close. Kidani has community hall which allows kids to color and do other crafts, watch a movie or play Nintendo switch/ Xbox all for free with the exception of some of the crafts that are very low. They have something similar at Jambo called Simba’s cubhouse as well.
Since you are wanting a 1 bedroom they will have a full kitchen in all of them however CFW cabins are the only DVC that does not have in room laundry in the one bedroom units.

The good news is you have some time to do some research. I’m sure your family will have a magical stay!!

I’ve stayed with DVC points rented from OKW_Family here on the boards; great guy to work with. Have also stayed with rental booked from DVCShopRentals website. That too was seamless. Have upcoming reservation booked with points rented from OffToDWD on the boards, and she too has been wonderful to work with. Previously tried to book with DVCRentalStore and the reservation fell through, but I was promptly refunded, it occurred with plenty of time to find alternate accommodations, and they were polite enough, to the point I would still rent through their website again.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that! It was very informative.

Yes, I know that the soonest is 11 months out if they are home resort! Thanks for the tip about the cabins not having as many owners yet. Looks like AKL may be the smarter choice.
Could you elaborate on how I would talk to the board sponsor? Or how I go about finding one?

Just adding to information provided above. The first week of December is THE highest DVC demand week of the year at WDW. The second week is the third highest (Christmas week is second). The earliest the member can book is at 8 a.m. eastern, 11-months out from date of arrival for resorts the member actually owns. For those times of year, there are actually a number of room categories that fill within moments after 8 a.m. eastern at 11-months. That you will be seeking a 1BR will probably give you time after 8 a.m. to get a reservation, since 1BRs tend to last longer than other room sizes. However, if you actually want that time of year, it will be best that you not wait any significant time beyond the 11-month window to try to get a reservation and thus should find a member to do the reservation before the 11-month window opens.
