Question about renting points

I am thinking about renting points for late summer. But I probably won't be able to decide until a few months before. Do you think I would still be able to get rental points? I would only need about 24. Do people rent that small amount?

You should go over to th rent/trade thread and post your requested dates and number of points you wish to get there. IMO I would request your ressies ASAP. You may not get the resort you wish if you wait any length of time.

I am new to renting, so I am sure others who own DVC can help you out.

You aren't actually renting points, you are renting a reservation made for you by a DVC Member. Yes, people do rent small point reservations. As to whether you will be able to find a room, probably so, as long as you remain flexible as to resort or room size. Generally OKW and SSR, being the largest resorts, will have availability after other resorts are booked. When AKV Kidani opens, it will also be a fairly large resort, and may have availability longer than BWV, BCV or VWL.

I rented points twice before buying DVC. Sometimes DVC members will rent a small amount of points. When I first wanted to rent at AKV I needed a studio (value) for two nights for 18 points. I watched the Rent/Trade boards for a while, and asked for points at 7 months before I needed them so that whoever I tried to rent from would be within the 7 month reservation window.

It did take a few tries, but I found someone on the DIS who was renting points, and was able to rent me that small an amount after she had rented out the bulk of her points for longer stays, so it can be done with some patience on your part. Remember that the reservation stays in the DVC members name. There is a really good sticky on the Rent/Trade board about renting points, so please read that first before renting.

The longer you wait, the less chance of getting what you want. There are a huge number of members trying to find renters right now due to the economy. I anticipate that things won't improve much during this next year.
