My very large family and I are planning a trip to dw in May 2008. We will need 5 studio rooms, I am wondering if it would be possible to rent all of the required points from 1 person or would I have to rent from several? Also, can 1 dvc member rent that many rooms at one time? (OKW is my preferred choice which would run 98 points per room for the week) This is my first time, I am trying to learn as much as I can before I rent.

Thanks,
camtheriot

Yes, depending upon how many points a given owner has available, it is possible to rent all your untis from one person. DVC member can book as many rooms as they have points to cover.

However, please read this post by WebmasterDoc.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

I'd be VERY VERY cautious - five studios sounds like some sort of family reunion trip. Those things often end badly on points.

Cancelling a DVC reservation isn't like cancelling a hotel room. Very often the member CAN'T help you move around a reservation or refund your money - they are simply "out" the points when you cancel (or rather, the points are so restricted they might as well be out.)

Family reunions often have this sequence of events.

1. Hey, lets all go to Disney! Who is in!
2. I'll get the rooms, you guys can pay me later.
3. Yep, everything is all set, can't wait for the trip.
4. Oh, I'm sorry to hear you guys can't go. Yes, yes, I understand - we will do it some other year.

When you hit #4 with everyone making their own plans, each individual is out their own money. With a CRO reservation, they may get every penny refunded if they cancel early enough. Not generally with a DVC rental.

Owners themselves, with a good understanding of how points work and putting "just points" at risk often end up with really hard feelings in this situation - particularly when the reason for cancelling is somewhat weak - which it often is.

Crisi is absolutely correct. If you have each family group book their own stays, it will be on them to worry about wether or not they will get a refund. Renting ONE unit isn't for the faint of heart, and renting 5 would definitely be an issue unless you know absolutely that NO ONE will cancel once it's booked.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!! I really never thought about getting each person to do their own renting ( I'm usually the vacation coordinator - we take yearly vacations together). Our family is really close, and would never skip out on payment for ANY reason short of death. However, could we all rent from different owners (or the same owner) and get rooms next to one another? The one thing we MUST have, is rooms in close proximity to one another.

Thanks again, I read every link you provided. I understand alot more, but am a little worried now.

Disney won't guarentee you rooms close to one another regardless -no matter who you book through. They'll try, but Disney can have a sense of humor about what close to one another means (like right above one another on different floors, but hundreds of feet from a stairway much less an elevator). And with DVC, its HIGHLY UNLIKELY you'd get five studios next to one another. Occupancy is too high and studios are interspersed with one and two bedroom units.

You may be better off offsite in a rental home.

There is no guarantee that even renting from the same owner that your rooms would be close together. But, however you book, simply have the owner or owners request to be nearby (whatever the other names on the reservations will be).

When ever we have requested to b near another party at OKW, they have been conveniently located, though not right next door, to each other. Sometimes at opposite end of the same building, sometimes directly above or below, and sometimes right in the next building.

There is no possible way that the rooms can be right next to each other. As another poster said, the Studios are interspersed with 1 and 2 bedroom units. The way OKW is laid out, I'm not even sure there would be 5 Studios on the same floor in the same building. I suspect the best you could get is all 5 in the same building - and I wouldn't count on that.

Boy, with that many people going, I'd look at getting a couple of 2 bedroom units...much more space (including both living room and kitchen) plus the ability to store snacks and drinks in the room.

I was thinking the same thing or a Grand villa plus.. you get the full kitchen and washer and dryer.. definitely a plus for a large group..

If all of the villas are rented from a single DVC Member, one of the prioritiy requests is to locate multiple rooms near each other.

While the same request may be made if it's from multiple members, it is more difficult to notate on the reservations.

If possible, try to find ONE member willing/able to rent all of your needs. If that is not possible, I'd still ask to have it noted as a request.

Good luck with your rental! :)
