Question about renting an 8 night stay

On most of the DVC rental sites, I see available reservations typically no more than 6 nights. Is it possible to rent 7-8 nights without too much trouble? What would be the best method of making this type of reservation?

September is a tough time for DVC rentals - it's probably the most popular month for DVC because it's usually the lowest points.

I don't know about DVC rental websites, but DVC members can book stays as long as they want, as long as they have enough points.

The trick for you is finding a member who has that many points to rent out.

Sure you can. Before I bought resale, I used to rent 14 night stays. One time in a studio, another time in a 1 bedroom - it's the 1 bedroom that convinced me I could never go back to a studio. Anyway, as mentioned, it's easier to find a member with enough points by just selecting your resort you'd like (be flexible with that if you can), and the dates you want. Let the rental company do the work of matching your request with a member. Although I've had great luck on the DisBoards rental site too. Good luck!

When I try to use an agency, I can't ever get someone with enough points so I look for confirmed rentals. Although, those are a bust sometimes, too.

I have great luck renting from the DIS. Some folks on here have lots of points to rent. Plus. Cheaper.

An owner can book up to 7 nights at 11 months or 7 months, with the ability to add an 8th on the day after.

An agency would have you wait until the whole stay can be booked. A private party rental might book the 7 nights and add the 8th the next day.

You might have better luck with a split stay on two reservations for fewer nights in each reservation.

Interesting idea. Would this require checking out and then checking back in? Or are the resorts usually good about letting you just transition directly from one to the other?

We've done this when renting before. We did 1 week in 1 resort and then moved to another resort for the next week for a total of 14 nights. If you wanted to stay 8 days in the same resort you may have to work with 2 separate owners and have 2 different reservations at the same resort. I would suggest looking at the listings on the Dis rent/trade threads and see what you can find. You may find an owner who has enough points for 8 nights. Before we bought we rented from an owner here on the boards - we used to contact her every time we went to see if she was able to rent to us. It can be done - it just may take a bit of searching.

You absolutely have to check out of one and check in to the next. And you are likely to be homeless between 11 and 4.

You could also check out the rental page on here if you don’t want to go through a shop and get the length you want. You can also request a stay of a certain length from the shop and they’ll find a owner who has the points to match what you are looking for

Is that recommended at 11 months out from the planned trip? Is there usually availability? We went through a shop last time, and they got the number of nights and room type we wanted, right at the 11-month mark, but not sure if we got lucky, or if that's usually the case. Bay Lake Tower.

True, I guess my concern is them "looking" for something that will be hard to fill, and wasting time while the reservations fill up.

They don't post them in the confirmed because it's less likely someone wants to spend that much. It's also less likely someone has that many points to do it all.

It's not like it's against the rules or something, you just have to find someone who has enough points to do it.

I've had zero trouble renting DVC for stays of 8/9 nights, but it might depend on time of year? If you do have trouble getting that many points, you could consider a split stay.

Typically 11 month bookings aren’t hard to get unless they value rooms at AK, Club rooms at AK, and some studios at specific times of the year.

If you have 2 reservations one right after the other at the same resort, same villa size, & same view & have the reservation noted as continuing w/ reservation number # I’ve read you usually won’t have to check out/in again.

As mentioned above, right when the reservation window opens (11 months home resort & 7 months anywhere) the owner can reserve a 7 night stay & no more, to add an 8th night you have to wait until the next day to grab it.
Confirmed reservations are made by owners betting a renter will want what they’ve booked, a week long stay of 7 days 6 nights is a pretty common vacation length. Plus Friday & Saturday night stays cost more points, so a reservation that has an extra Friday &/or Saturday may not look like as much of a bargain.
If the reservations you’re looking at are for 7 months or less out then there may not be availability for longer stays.
The rental brokers will rent more nights for you if they have an owner w/ enough points & if it’s for 7-11 months out if they have an owner w/ enough points at the home resort you want.
