question about renting a car onsite WDW

I am getting MUCH better rate quotes with National by picking the car up in WDW instead of MCO (but still returning to MCO). Now that ME offers free transportation to our resort (CSR) this is a viable option. Which onsite rental desk is the best - Dolphin or Car Care Service? Are there any other locations? And how do I get there? We can maneuver our way by bus to the Dolphin (albeit time consuming) but what about Car Care Service? Any tips or advice on renting a car after you arrive?

Ok I'm looking into something similar so I'm interested to see what people post, but I do know that there is a shuttle (not sure what time it starts at though) that will pick you up and bring you to the Car Care Center by the MK. I'm not sure if there is one for the Dolphin though, but you could also take a taxi.

I hope someone posts an answer...I'm interested too! Got a great for pick up at Dolphin, drop off at MCO, but wondered if Car Care Center is more convienient. Never been befor, so wasn't sure which way to handle this.

Do Disney busses go to the Dolphin resort???

Great question!! :cool1:

disney busses to go to the Dolphin from the theme parks, water parks, and DTD.

You can get to the Dolphin from EPCOT via International Gateway or MGM, both of these by a short boat ride. I rented a car for one day durning my May trip and it was super easy. You do not need to go into MGM to take the boat over. And the Dolphin is the first stop for the boat.

I picked it up at 8 AM, I was staying at Boardwalk Villas so I just walked over, and returned it at 11 pm that night. They have 24 hours drop off/valet guys check it back in. I did not want to run back at 8 am to drop it back off.
The desk is inside the main lobby in a smaller room that also sells Disney passes etc.

Part of the reason it is cheaper then renting at MCO is the airport consession fee. Not sure exactly what that is but it is about $5-7 a day maybe it is just a one time fee per rent period.

I have no experience renting from the Car Care Center.

My quote is almost HALF the price just by picking up at WDW instead of MCO for the same dates! But, it's still no where near as low as the rates were last year. Perhaps the ME transportation is having an impact and the rental agencies are forced to raise prices to meet expenses. (Just a guess).
Oh, and BTW...I'll see you in Allentown on July 9! I'll be in my lime green shirt and wearing my green homemade lanyard. :bounce:

The Magic Kingdom Car Care Center(Alamo/National) has complimentary/almost-on-demand shuttles that will take you from your WDW resort to the MKCC. Just arrange for this the day before with your resort's front desk. So far as I am aware there is no set schedule, they will just come to your resort at an mutually agreed-upon time.
We've done this before & it really works pretty much the way I said above :).

I'm not sure which location would be more convenient for you, but the MKCCC probably has a bigger selection if there is a possible problem with your car.

If I remember correctly it is by the race track to the left of the poly (that is if you are facing the entrance to the Poly). Someone else can probably give you a better idea though.

I used entertainment club coupon and got a rate of approx. $155.00 for 10 days. Pick up Dolphin hotel, drop off Orlando International Airport. That was over $100.00 less than the best AAA rate from Hertz and I would have to get back to the airport for pick up. I was really excited about the rate! :cool1:

If anyone is looking for less expensive car rental rates, go check out the Rental Cars page on MouseSavers.Com . Mary will have all the legit codes listed there for the major car rental companies, plus *lots* of tips/hints. I would never consider going on a WDW trip unless I had checked out MouseSavers.Com. I think I'm saving at least $100 on my car rental by using the codes & tips posted on MouseSavers.

We also rent a car from National at the Dolphin. It couldn't be easier! We pick it up in the morning then drop it off to the valet at night. We stay at the BWI, so it's a little easier for us to pick the car up, but I'd take your resort bus to MGM and walk over to the Dolphin (it's about a ten-fifteen minute walk). Have a great trip!

Budget has a desk at the Downtown Disney resorts. Has anyone ever rented there?
There are 7 resorts on Hotel Plaza Blvd. across from DD. Do you know which resort has the Budget desk?

There is a budget office at the doubletree in DTD. That is where we are going to pick up our car on 6/13

Double Tree Resort in the Downtown Disney Resort Area has Budget Desk. We are thinking of renting there.

rgo772,
How did it go with the Budget Office at DTD?

I have found out that the Car Care Center has longer hours of operation and will be the only one available for our evening pick up.

I'm renting at the Dolphin through National too. We are going to the MK in the morning (wouldn't want to drive there anyway), and taking the bus to the Dolphin that afternoon before going to MGM.
