Question about renewing AP

Our current APs expire on 11/16/16. Our next trip ends on 11/12/16. I would like to know if I can use MYW tickets that I bought from UT towards the renewal price and get current gate price applied while still at WDW?. I have done something similar to this before but the difference was I used the MYW tickets and then bought new AP. I wouldn't be using these tickets first since my AP is still active.

Yes. I just did this for the first time the other day with package tickets, and UT tickets work the same way. It's actually easier if the guest hasn't used the tickets first, and that has nothing to do with getting gate price anyway.

Really? My understand in the past was that you needed to use the ticket first in order to have it "bridged" to gate price. Otherwise we would only get credit in the amount of what we paid for the tickets from UT. I'm glad if that is not the case anymore!

Hasn't been the case for at least a year and a half, if not longer. :)

That is great news for me! Last year when we renewed I did it by phone. I hadn't even thought about using tickets I had towards renewing. Will definitely bring them with me on our upcoming trip and do it this way. Also will be nice to get the extra month with the new promotion - which is one of the reasons I want to renew. I had been thinking about to just buy new APs on the following trip we have planned for March.

Would that be the same case for bridging a ticket for a new AP or just if you are renewing like I want to do? Also thinking about buying an AP for one of my DD's who does not currently have one.

For upgrading to a new AP, it's a different procedure, so usage doesn't matter as long as the ticket is still valid. :)

Ah ok, since I have never tried to renew an AP while at Disney I hadn't thought about it. But then I thought I remembered reading on here somewhere that someone else used MYW tickets towards renewing. I have a few I bought prior to price increases. Now, that ticket structures have changed I would rather use some of these tickets up then hanging on to them too long.
