One of my friends bought into DVC while they were on a Disney cruise and gave my name (since DH & I are members). They told my friend that we would receive "something". We haven't been notified about anything. How long would it take for them to notify us if we were to get something? Not sure what the "something" is since they didn't tell my friend.

Anyway, I was just wondering if they would contact us and how long it would take. Or should I contact DVC? or contact my guide?

Thanks much!!

We referred a friend in early September and received a card from DVC thanking us about 3-4 weeks later, then just this week our "something" showed up on our DVC member page. I know that it varies some depending on the state that you live in, but we received $200.00 that could go toward several things including, a gift card, annual dues, purchase of more points... can't remember what else. Also, the more people that you refer the bigger the amount. I am new to this too, so someone else may have more specifics. I think your guide should be able to tell you if you got credit for the referral and what the status is, and also what you are eligible for in your state.

It does vary depending on the state where you live and the state where the 'referred' member lives. We only had one referral this year and received $200.00. We could chose to put it towards our maintenance fees, a Disney rewards care or a pre paid Visa card.

The amount increases depending on how many referrals you can have in one calendar year. If we could get another one this year, our next payout would be $350.00. If you get a third one in the same year, then you get another $500.00. So in other words three referrals in one year can get you $1,050.00!!! Not bad for telling people about DVC and making sure they give your name as the referral at their very first encounter with a DVC guide.

If they are already in the system from a previous encounter with DVC then all referrals are off.

Hope that makes sense and helps you understand rather than confuse you!!

Just wondering if you some refers you does only the person who refers get something or the person joining get something as well?

Promotions vary, I do recall earlier in the year that the purchasing party would get free points for an 'extra' vacation.

Oh yeah, you also get to be a DVC member

It depends on the incentives being offered when you purchase. We received a $500.00 gift card and the person that referred us received $200.00.

I emailed member services and this is the answer I got:

If you have a referral, live in an eligible State, and you are eligible
for the Share the Magic Program, then you will be able to see a link on
the My Membership Tab. For further information on the Share the Magic
Program, please visit the Refer the Friend Tab located on the Main Page
or contact your Sales Guide.

So I how do I know if I live in an "eligible state"? What does that mean anyway - I thought if you referred someone then you got a gift of some sort? No one ever mentioned "eligible state" when we bought in.

Just wondering if anyone knew...thanks!!

I believe the answer you got from MS should tell you if you live in an eligible state. Try going to the DVC member website and look somewhere on the main page for a link that says something about Referring a Friend or some such wording......if you live in a state that doesn't allow such you probably won't have that link on the page. I seem to remember reading the states that don't allow referrals somewhere.......just wish I could remember where I read it.......

DVC Member's "Share the Magic" Program

We purchased during the Friends & Family promotion they had a couple of years ago. We gave the name and address etc. of one of DH's co-workers as our referral - but it took MONTHS for him to receive something. I had to call our guide 2 or 3 times before he received his $200 gift certificate or whatever it was. So based on our experience you may have to have your friends follow up on it for you with their guide.

Does anybody know whether people from outside USA get anything!!!
We don't normally, although they make as much money from us as they do from anyone else!!! :sad2:

My brother bought thru us and we never got anything and I honestly forgot about it until about a year later my SIL reminded me but I never did call. I figured it had been too long at that point.

My Cousin and her friends went to the presentation the first week of August. My Cousin did not buy but her friends did. Little did we know Cousin was pregnant with twins!!!! LOL But the friends used me as a reference and I just received the $200 off my annual dues. I have direct debit so it ended up being $100 last month and $100 this month.

Well, I live in one of the eligible states but still haven't heard anything; then again it's only been about a month since my friends bought. She & I are have a planned trip in January - guess if I don't hear anything by then I'll make a visit to my guide and see what's up. :)

Thanks a bunch!

Check the Member site under "Sharing the Magic" in the "My Membership" section. There it'll show you which of your referrals has closed, and it will allow you to redeem your referral rewards right there.

If it's not there, I'd recommend you call your guide and ensure that you're getting credit for the referral. Good luck! :goodvibes
