I live in NJ and have friends that just joined in March. I know that I read somewhere that there are certain restrictions depending on what state you live in that will determine if I would be entitled to a referrel bonus......please educate me on this. I think some of the bonuses were payment of annual dues, Disney dollars etc. Please help!!!!

Jim

P.S. This site is sooooo great!!!!!

Some states forbid any form of reward for referring a buyer. If you live in one of these states, you are out of luck.

I'm not sure about NJ, but we aren't eligible here in Indiana. That hasn't stopped me from referring friends to the program however! ;)

You can call DVC and ask if your state is eligible.

Enjoy!

I made sure to mention the athletic director at the school where I teach when I bought. He really didn't refer me, but I knew he was in DVC. Since we are in Ohio it didn't do any good!

New Jersey does allow the incentive for referrals.

The states that allow incentives are: Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

In the Sharing the Magic Rewards Guide they have some special stipulations on how people can be referred in New Jersey. It states that the only way that a person can be considered a referral is if the DVC member gives a referral postcard to the person and they fill it out and mail it in themselves. You might check out the guide that we received last year to check on the specifics.

I did notice that the new rewards program has a new tiered system. They now allow up to 5 referrals in a year. The 5th referral rewards a $1000 gift. I guess that I will never see that since Illinois has a $1000 cap on referral gifts.

Jim,

Did you refer your friends, or did they refer you? If you referred your friends, and they already joined in March, than you might have a tough time recouping a referral reward after-the-fact.

I know that DVC expects a prospective buyer to mention from the onset whether or not they have been referred. DH and I toured the DVC sales office on our own during a WDW vacation. A month later we joined over the phone, and we mentioned friends of ours in NJ, who are also DVC members. We learned about the referral reward when we spoke to our friends about the program...we did not know about it when we took the tour. The DVC sales rep said that since we came into the sales office on our own, technically we weren't "referred".

So for those of you referring family, friends, co-workers, etc. to the DVC, make sure they mention your name right up front!

NJ does allow referrals. We just recently got the $200.00 disney dollars (fun money for the next trip !) But I was referred by a relative who didn't get the referral bonus and had to call her guide. Turned out is was missed in the system. Moral of the story"It doesn't hurt to ask"

North Carolina has the referral program also, my guide told me 1st referral is 200 disney dollars,2nd is 500, 3rd is 750 and 4th is 1000 and then it starts all over again. Hope this helps.

Actually the guide that I am looking at says:

Level 1 - $200
Level 2 - $350
Level 3 - $500
Level 4 - $750
Level 5 - $1000

I pulled this from the Sharing the Magic Rewards Guide that we received just a few months ago.
