Question about preferred sites..

Do any of the 100 or 200 loop sites back up to the canal? We have a 29' TT and will also have a tent set up on site. We would love to back up to the canal or at least have some more trees than our site had last year. I know some of the sites are pretty tight, so we are trying to figure out which loop and/or area to request. Our trip is finally getting within view and we are really starting to get excited! Got our Mickey ears almost done and have also been now working on some holiday decorations!

Of the preferred loops, I'm pretty sure only 300 actually backs up to the canal. I know there are quite a few sites where you've got a nice grassy "back yard" and a lovely view. There are a couple right at the start of the loop, with a view of the playground/dog park on the other side, and then some more a little further in backing up to the part of the canal that comes in straight off the lake.

Possible down side to the latter is that this grassy area is also the dog walk - although since they opened the dog park a few years ago it doesn't seem to be used a whole heck of a lot - at least not when we're there in Nov/Dec. We walk one of our dogs out there and rarely come across another dog. Although we frequently see ducks and deer ...and fishermen.

Monique can be forgiven for not knowing this, because it used to be that you couldn't see it, but there is a small canal that borders some of the sites on the 100 and 200 loops. The growth around it was cleared earlier this year, and you can see it in these photos (that green slime is the water):

Here we are looking sideways over toward the 100 loop. The canal is right next to the split-rail fence that you see in this photo. Before the recent clearing, you could not see these campsites from the trail, but now you can:

If you look at a FW map, you can see this little canal.

On some older maps, it even has a name: Seminole Creek.

As usual, TCD is correct. We stayed in site 109 in August. There was a very green and nasty "canal" behind our site. I wouldn't waste your time requesting a site on the water in these loops.

Thanks all for the info... TCD thanks for the photos. Your photo collection and knowledge about the Fort just amazes me. I hadn't taken note of the canal on our trip down last year. Having only been down to the Fort once in the past we have lots to learn..Guess we will need to make lots more trips down!

We were in site 109 in april. The water was green then too.

Our unit is 39 feet. We were back pretty far into the site, Levelers were on the pad, rear sticking over the sand area some. Our tow dolly was stored on the sand area.
If you have problems backing in, this site is almost a straight shot in.
No trees on the driver's side, so no shade on your setup during the day.
