Question about possible cancellation

We are planning a family vacation in Fall 2011. We will be using points to rent a 1 BR Villa and 2- Deluxe Studios at our home resort Boardwalk. We will make this reservation at the 11 month mark.

Our son is active military and could be deployed without much notice. He and his family would be using one of the Deluxe Studios.

Our question is what if we have to cancel one or both of the Studios? What happens with the points?

if you cancel 32 days or before - then your points will be returned to your use year - no problems

if 31 days or later then the points go into holding. holding points can only be used 60 days or later before your reservation.

The reservations are each separate. Make the 2 BR reservation with banked/borrowed points and make sure at least one studio is only current use year points. That way you should be able to bank if you find out early enough. UY will play a roll as will the lead time to cancelation.

And you have to bank those points at least four months before the end of your UY.

fall trips and dec UYs aren't an ideal combination as your banking window closes july 31. if you cancel after july 31, your pts are locked into that UY and will expire at the end of november 2011.

you would either have to try to rent or give away the reservation as it is or else rebook a reservation on short notice that ends before dec 1st.

if you cancel before aug 1, you can at least bank the current year's pts if you choose...
