Hi,
I am planning a trip to Disney and we are going to stay at the pop century. A few years ago I stayed there and I know that there was a building to request staying in that was closest to where the bus picks you up. I can't recall which building that was is anybody able to help with the building closet to bus area.

Thanks!

The 80s section, building 9 facing the parking lot or the 70s section, building 10 will put you close to the bus stops.

You can check out the Pop Century map under Resorts and see room numbers for the different buildings as well

80's close to the bus? I can see why one would think so, looking at the map. But if you request 80's and get the one furthest from the bus stop, youre screwed. its a long walk! 60's is closest to the main building. I would go with that. you just cut across from inside the main building. Or you can ask for the 70's (tike bike section). Theyre technically closest to the buses.

Yep the 80s building 9. If you are in that building all you have to do is cut across the parking lot and you are at the DTD bus stop. If you're going to one of the parks that has a stop nearer the exit to the main building then you have to walk further. If you're in the 60s or 70s and you want to walk through the building to get to the DTD bus stop then you will have to walk a little further. With the bus stops, and if you are just interested in going straight to the bus stops without having to stop or pass by the main building, it is six of one and half a dozen of the other as to which you pick.

We haven't stayed in Pop in years, but when we did, we would always request either 50's or 80's.

I have stayed in the 90's Bldg 8 all the way at the end closest to the Main Building. No way was that a short walk, if I had been at other end of building or given Bldg 7 it would have been longest walk on the property. I will never stay over there again:

- Too far from everything
- I hate that that area is virtually surrounded by parking lots and unless you want to go way out of your way via the 70's you will be walking along parking lot instead of resort.
- I'm not going to take my family cutting through a parking lot to go to the bus stop, so we stayed on the sidewalk and it was a jaunt.
- They put all the groups in the 80's and 90's especially building 8 and 9 because their tour buses can pull right up to them. Jan-June is the busy season for them with Jan/Feb being the SA Tour Groups (and that means at least 1000). Was stuck with them twice it's miserable so next week I'm offsite.

I think the absolute closest spots to stay for the shortest walk to buses is the preferred rooms. If you do not want to stay prefer I would request 60's standard or 70's standard (70's on same side of Main Bldg as the bus stop.)

Note: Our favorite is 50's Lake View and our walk to the bus is 5 minutes.

There was a map that determined 60's building 5 is the shortest walk. I'll try to find it.

We were there the last week of December, and stayed in 80s section, building 9, and the walk to the bus stop/pick-up was a short walk.

I stay in 60's preferred and it's a short, nice walk by the pool and through the main building.

We've stayed in the 80's building #9 three times :) and it is definitely very easy to get to and from the bus stops. No need to walk in the parking lot, just stay on the sidewalk around the edge. It's great when you stay in the parks until closing, and only have to drag your kids a short distance to the room ;)

Think about this…..not only is 60's (and 70’s) a quicker route to the main building, its also more convenient. If youre in the 80’s or 90’s, that’s quite a hike to the main building every time you need a mug refill, a meal, hippy dippy pool etc! I’d rather be closer to the main building. Everything is at your finger tips.

Every try 60's lakeview? So pretty! I had 50's lakeview and I asked to be changed. For some reason i found that much further from the main building.

Here's a quote from that link:

I've seen a bit of discussion about this lately, so with regard to the questions about which building is closer to the buses, there are a few different factors to consider.

First, remember that for most buildings, you will enter Classic Hall and then out to the buses in front. For the 80s/90s section, you can cut across the parking lot, making it a shorter trip.

I've found that it's fun, though, to be able to go through Classic Hall. I'm weird like that

You also have to consider that even though one building may seem closer to the buses or Classic Hall, your location within that building can make a significant difference in the distance you must travel.

But anyway, here's a little map that I've drawn up using the overview map from post #1 with some "point A to the buses" distances based on the rough distance from a central location in each decade, and what would be the quickest path to the bus loading area. If you're farther or closer to the buses than the "center point" that I measured from, just add a bit or subtract a bit from the total.

80s/90s = 945 feet
70s = 950 feet
50s = 980 feet
60s = 840 feet

60's is infact closer. Im surprised at 70's. wow.

Some people who don't like Pop talk about how big it is. It's not THAT big but every step can count when you're coming "home" after a long day with aching feet. :)

I would stay 60's lake view if you don't want to pay for preferred. I love walking by the Hippy Dippy Pool everyday. I think that area is the most bright and cheerful in all of Pop!

ha ha, yes, every step counts after a long day! Thats for sure.

Yes i also love walking by hippy dippy. 60's lakeview is absolutely gorgeous! I stayed by the bridge...its such a short walk over to AoA. Love that resort!

This is the pic i took....its facing AoA.

I don't go to the main building. I don't get the mug, don't eat there. YMMV. If you aren't going to the main building and you just want to hit the bus stops quck you would be fine with 80s #9.

I would love to stay 60's Lake View, especially since I like to walk over to AoA to eat BUT it's location from the parking lot is the issue for me. I drive, usually alone with my DS who is disabled. I usually stay 7-12 days, I do not do laundry = more clothes, I bring food for breakfast and some packed lunches, water and soda, I bring my computer and extra monitor to work some while he rests .... that's alot of junk to haul to my room. I can park not too far from a room in Bldg 3 Lake View. One of these shorter, less junk trips, I'm going to try 60's! :goodvibes February is coming up, maybe I pack less. :scratchin

You really can not use the Disney Resort Map as a basis for distance or steps. They are not drawn to perfect dimensions, I doubt any of them are, one reason is they don't want you to know how far your room is from anywhere. They are creative works, not true maps.

I've stayed at POP many times, and walked all over and stayed in most the sections. If you really want to do a map with walking distances you have to pull up a google map and do accurate calculations. I pulled one up and did some quick distances and the 60's are by are the closest, which I don't think anyone would argue, with a walking time of approx 3 minutes. From the Bowling Pin pool the Computer pool and the center of the 70's corridor they are all the same distance with 4 minute walk. Of course your actual room location could change this by a minute or so.

I would back track and say the distances are equal, choosing equally located rooms in those sections. I don't use the main pool, I rarely use the food court (if I do it's after I get off the bus), I rarely use a refillable mug. I've stayed in 90's twice and I refuse to go back there - especially since that is where all the groups stay. One reason I stay on Disney property is to enjoy the resort, the scenery and the walks - that means I do not wish to walk along and around a parking lot to get to the bus stop, maybe 30 seconds faster. I prefer to walk through the resort.

There is no terrible walk at POP, it has a great footprint no matter where you stay. I say pick an area that appeals to you for other reasons.

Ah yes. Parking. Since you have a lot to haul into the room, i can see why you'd choose 50s. Its far more convenient. I rented a car once, stayed at 60s, but still parked in the main lot only because I don't have a lot to carry into the room like you do . if I had a lot of stuff I'd probably be asking for 50s lake view as well. Love the lake view. So pretty. I also love that you can see fireworks from 60s lakeview side.
