Question about points which expire March 31

Hi.

I'm going to purchase 31 add-on pts at BCV on February 25, 2003. My use year is April so they will expire on April 1. I would like to transfer/trade them to someone who could use them before April.

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to become available to use?

Also, when a reservation is made, when are points taken out of the account? Is it the day of check-in or some time before?

I'm assuming that points which are nearing expiration are always deducted first.

are you buying from DVC - if not I would count on being able to use them - March is a very popular month (spring break) and the DVC resorts are pretty filled at least for the week I am going. If you are buying from DVC ask them what you can do - they have a very quick turning around time.

so I am going March 16-21 - call and see if you even find a reservation for them.

You can use the points for a reservation as soon as you have paid your deposit.

You probably won't be able to transfer them to another member until closing has occurred.

Points aren't "used" until the first day of the reservation and at that time all points for the entire reservation are considered spent. Until the first day, you can still cancel the reservation which returns the points to your account- possibly with some restrictions depending on how far ahead you cancelled.

You should always instruct MS to use points about to expire for a reservation, but they will usually do so without asking.
