Question about Points in holding and the timing.

We have an upcoming trip that we might have to cancel. I cannot remember the rules on when we have to cancel before for the points to not go into holding. I did a quick search but didn't find the answer, I was hoping someone could help me out since I've never had to pay any attention to holding before since we've only been members for a couple of years and have never cancelled. We need 2 BRs and travel from far away, so I'm afraid it will become difficult to use holding points without losing them - and it would be quite a few. But stuff happens sometimes.

If you cancel 30 days or less before the check in date, the points will go into holding.

To add, unlike booking window which is exactly 11 or 7 months to the date, holding status is based on actual days so be sure you know what day 31 is from check in so you cancel no later than that.

But, I would caution that the website is not always functional so I might give myself some breathing room so you don't get stuck that last day, have issues, MS is already closed, and you end up with holding status by mistake.

OK, thanks you so much. So I would have to cancel no later than 31 calendar days prior to the day of check in, so for an April 8th check in I could cancel up to and including March 8th (I hear you on not waiting until the last day for a variety of reasons, but just making sure I understand when that last day is)?
