Question about point transfer and availability.

I'm wondering if someone can help answer a question for me, I'm a recent purchaser via Resale from 2018. I'm going to be looking to book a trip for 2020. My home resort is SSR and i will be booking a 2 bedroom next month to lock in my dates. My wife has her heart set on stating at BLT, so my question is how is availability at BLT in February for a 2 bedroom Lake view historically? Then a follow-up question would be if I need to get some more points to do this would it be better for me to look to get some extra points through a transfer to I would be able to book this at my 7 month mark or would it make more sense to rent the points?

If you only need a few more points, the easiest route would be to call Member Sevices and purchase OPTUPs (One-Time Use Points). OTUPs cost $19 each and you can purchase up to 24 points. They cannot be bought prior to the 7-month window and they can’t be banked if you cancel your trip. OTUPs expire at the end of your UY.

I would only rent from another member if I didn’t have points of my own to use or if I was concerned that a “must have” Villa will not be available at 7 months.

And getting a points transfer involves a level of trust between both owners. Technically speaking, DVC rules do not permit owners to pay for transferred points but they look the other way. If something goes awry with the transfer (I.e. the owner of the points takes the money and runs or the purchaser of the points gets the points and never pays), DVC will not step in to make the wronged party whole. Also, getting a good rate on transferred points would depend greatly on how many you are needing. Since owners can only transfer in or out once per UY, most people offering points for transfer really want to transfer all of them.

BLT 2BR lake view for Feb 2020 at 7 months out:

Feb 1 to Feb 13, the Thurs before Presidents Day, is typically THE lowest DVC demand time of the year: most likely open

Feb 14 to 17, Presidents Day Weekend: some minor risk a day could be gone

Feb 18, 19: most likely open.

Feb 20 through Feb 22, the Thurs through Sat of Princess half-marathon weekend, which is the highest DVC demand time that exists between mid-Jan and late Sep: a risk that a day or two could be gone.

Feb 23 to Feb 28: another low demand time that will most likely be open.

With transfer points can they be used in the home booking (11 month) window? I was thinking they could if at the same resort but maybe that is incorrect.

Transferred points retain their home resort and UY.
