Question about Poinciana, FL

I was looking at house prices in Florida, just for fun, and noticed that there were a great number of houses in Poinciana for sale around the $50,000 level. They looked like decent houses in a decent neighbourhood compared with the level of house for the same price in Kissimmee, if you know what I mean. I'm just wondering why they were so cheap, beyond the obvious economy issue. Is there something going on in Poinciana? I just thought that these houses would be more expensive, but maybe they weren't as nice as they looked in the pictures - you never know.

Poinciana is NOT a good/safe area. We were looking at that area 6 years ago when we wanted to build and move down here. I wouldn't even get out of the car. It has only gotten worse. Very crime-ridden area.

Oh, okay that makes sense. I figured there had to be some reason.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity :)

also the area was hit very hard with foreclosures, lots of abandoned homes dragging prices down even further

I have been in Poinciana since February 2005 and have not noticed any problems. Actually we are starting to get more shopping and restaurants, and the construction of a Hospital is about to start.

But I do live in the Polk County side, which may not be a major effect since there is a study going on right now to incorporat Poinciana and make it into a city.
