Question about park hopper

I have 2 separate reservations to take advantage of the free dining promo.
the first reservation is for 2 nights with a 2 day park hopper ticket (Nov13, 14)
the second reservation is for 8 nights with an 8 day park hopper and free dining (Nov 15-22)
The first person I spoke to at reservations told me that I could, with my 8 night reservation, do a 10 day park hopper and that would cover the full 10 days. The second person I spoke to had no idea this was even an option
So... adding the 2 day park hopper to my 2 day room only reservation has pretty much eaten up the savings I received by getting free dining!
Does anyone know if I can choose a 10 day park hopper with my 8 day reservation?
I can't add it to the 2 day reservation because the free dining offer is only valid with a park hopper ticket.
Thanks!

Yes. You can get a 10 day ticket. You'll have to visit the guest services window and have them activate your tickets early, but you can do that up to 10 days prior, I believe. So you should be fine!

Yes, you aren't limited to the number of nights when it comes to your ticket
But you can't get free dining on the first 2 nights if you don't buy a ticket with the package so maybe I'm not clear on what you want to accomplish

Ok, maybe I do understand. Your first 2 nights do not have free dining, just the 8 nights do.
Yes, you plan will work

Have a great trip!

Yes you can - just upgrade the hopper with the free dining reservation (2nd reservation) to a 10 day, you can then activate it up to 10 days prior to check in so this is plenty of time to use it during your first 2 day reservation.

The only drawback is that you will only be able to make your FP+ at 60 days prior to the 2nd reservation.

This is assuming you did not book free dining with your first reservation in which case you would be required to purchase a ticket to qualify for the free dining on the first two days.

You could also purchase a 10 day hopper at a discount (undercover tourist etc) and then downgrade the package tickets to the minimum required and save those for another trip. Not sure how those numbers work out for you or if you would visit again to be able to take advantage of using/upgrading it later or not. Then you would have a 10 day ticket and could make your fp+ at 60 days for the entire trip.

Sorry, but that does not make any sense that I can figure.
I'm thinking that you are confusing some of the wording of the minimum ticket requirements.
You can certainly purchase a 10-day hopper and take advantage of the resort pkg. offer.

The OP means they can't (it doesn't make sense to) purchase the 10 day ticket with their first reservation because of the ticket requirement purchase on the second reservation.

I think OP is saying that he/she can't put it on the first two day reservation because that one doesn't have free dining. Because the 8 night one is the free dining one, if they are only getting one ticket, it has to go on that second reservation. They are correct about that, but can still activate those tickets during the earlier 2 night non-dining stay.

Yeah, it took me a minute to realize that the first stay was NOT with free dining.
So that doesn't have a ticket requirement, they just thought they needed to get 2 days with it since they wanted park tickets before they checked in to their Free Dining stay.
Few realize they can pick them up early and Disney isn't usually very forthcoming with that bit of information.

Thank you for the responses. A 2 day parkhopper ticket is a whopping $273! Why would I want to pay that if I can extend my 8 day to a 10 day and cover my entire stay for just a few dollars more?? And I can't add it to the first stay because in order to get free dining for my second stay, I have to purchase a package that includes park tickets. I'm so glad I came here and asked the question because you all just saved us almost $1000 between my travel party!
Thanks so much!!!

If you get WPM you can get less park tickets since a waterpark day doesn't use one. We are onsite 9 days. We get 6 day tickets since 2 will be waterpark days and one a down day.

The only problem you will have is that you will not be able to make FP+ for your first two days. You'll be able to make FP+ after you activate the tickets onsite.

If the OP purchases 10 day tickets with her 2nd stay they will be able to make FP+ at 60 days prior to the 2nd reservation for those 8 days! There is no need to activate tickets purchased with a package.

Then at 30 days prior to the first stay they can make FP+ for the first 2 days.

She will be able to book FP+ at 60 days for her package that starts on Nov 15.

But, she will not be able to book FP+ for the portion without tickets (Nov 13-14), until she activates the package tickets of her second portion, onsite. Which means, she will not be able to pre-book the FP+ for the first two days.

IMHO, this is a huge disadvantage of booking a split stay where the tickets are part of a package that starts on the second part of the split stay. If the part with the tickets starts in the first part of the stay, or if the tickets were not part of a package, but rather independent tickets, she would not have this problem.

Is it worth an extra $1000 to keep the tickets on the first 2 days? No. But, one option is to book tickets for the entire stay independently, and then changing the tickets of the second package stay to 2-days and saving those for a future trip.

I highly recommend mesaboy's thread located here:

Edited to add option of what to do and clarity.

She needs at least a 2-day PH ticket on her second part of the split stay for Free Dining.

Guests can activate a WDW resort package ticket up to 10 days earlier than resort check-in.

But, no pre-arrival booking of FP+ will be possible for the first 8 days of the trip.
