Hey Everyone! DH and I have been TTC since September of 2006. I was on the BCP for a little over 11 years and finished them on 9/16/06. Anyway, last month we decided to buy some ovulation tests, just to see if they worked. I have the book, Taking Charge of your Fertility, and I know the author of that book feels that they do not. Anyway, I started charting my temp (started on Christmas) and this past week it was elevated and I did have other signs of ovulation. However, the tests have been negative. Can someone give me some insight on these tests? Thanks! :)

Got pg on the first one I used after doing the tempature thing for a few months. I found out that I ovulated 3 days before I thought I did and that was our prob. Good Luck.

I'd probably follow your body's signs for ovulation before resorting to the ovulation prediction kits.

You've been off the BCP's for four months. From what I'd been told, it takes several months for your body to get back into the routine. For me, I think it was about 4 or 5 months before the signs of ovulation returned. And I will say, they were 100% accurate. I showed signs with older son one day after bc failure, and we got pregnant. With younger son, first try for him was when I showed signs and boom, pregnant again.

Trust your body!

Oh, I think they work. It took me a few miscarriages and 1 1/2 years after being off b/c to get pregnant w/my ds5. I took the ovulations tests, I read books and I knew the day my son was conceived that I would get pregnant, and it would be a boy! Good luck and don't get too stressed. That was also one of my problems...you get stressed out and THAT effects your body as well!!:grouphug:

They never worked for me. I also bought the same book and I will tell you what worked better for me than charting temps. ***TMI ALERT*** Watch for that "goo" AKA mucus. That is the telltale sign you're ready to go. I got pregnant two seperate times, on my first try by watching for this.

I used the Clearblue Ovulation tester. It was crazy expensive I though (like $200) plus you had to buy the little sticks to "go" on, but we were desperate.
When I told my OB about it he thought I was crazy to pay that much money and told me to just take my temp. or watch for the "goo" and that's the best way to go. He was right!!

Not to be gross, but i had a lot of that this month. More than I've had in the last few months. Maybe this will be our lucky month. In the meantime to keep the stress down, i'm planning a WDW vacation...something to keep my mind occupied. Thank you everyone for the information.

There are problems with all of the methods, unfortunately. SO a combination of all of them is a good way to go. Unfortunately with the ovulation tests, they only tell you that you are going to ovulate sometime within the next 24-72 hours. That's a big window!

And with the temping, by the time your temperature spikes, you've already ovulated and it may be too late. But I have heard of women who get pregnant by trying AFTER the spike in temp. It's so difficult to say because every woman is different, and every time is different. It's all just a big game of getting the timing just right. I would try combining a few of the techniques, and then relax! Don't focus too intently on it, and you'll get pregnant eventually.

Good luck!

You also want to watch for the consistency of the 'goo'. I did this and was pg within 2mo, 1mo, and 2mo. Good luck!

I never had luck with the ovulation predictors. But my SIL swears by them and she found them along with pregnancy tests at the Dollar Tree. Just make sure they are not expired if you decide to use them.

BTW I agree with the discharge being a great predictor of ovulation. Good luck- I hope it happens soon!!!

I know you have to look for the egg white consistency, which i had a lot of this month. I just hope this is a good month for us! :goodvibes

Charting never worked for me, I used fertility friend to keep track of it. I would have 18+ day luteal phase every month and it would show pregnant signs all over. I used the clear blue easy monitor and that helped as did the clomid. ;)

:thumbsup2 I used the old ones that you add so many drops of first morning urine to. THey worked good, both times I wound up pregnant!

I'm in there with you! We've been TTC since July and have had no luck and finally broke down and bought the ovulation kit. I figure it's worth a try! The $30 is going to be peanuts compared to when I do conceive and have to buy all the baby stuff!:lmao:

It took me a year to get pregnant with my son, but we weren't in a rush and wanted it to happen when it was supposed to, so we never calculated anything. This time I am trying to keep them as close to age as I can.

Good luck!
