Last evening while in the attic I ran across 3 spool/reels of old 8 mm home movies that were taken 30 years ago! What are the chances that the film is still good after all that time and being in the heat of the attic???? I would like to have them put on a vcr tape or dvd. Has anyone done this and is it very expensive? I believe some of the footage (no pun intented!:teeth: ) is of oldest DS's first steps!:D

If you think it might have some valuable memories on it you my want to bring it to a place to have it put on video/dvd directly without viewing it, you may not want to risk breaking the film and not be able to recover the images.

My FIL is in the process of doing this right now! He just got a couple of old projectors off of ebay, and we've been watching a lot of old home movies! My girls think it's great to see DH and I as children! Anyway, he plans on converting them to DVD. Not sure how, but I would imagine it's pretty expensive.

Quite a while ago I took all of our 8mm film and put it on video myself. It was quite project. I ran it in a projector I still had and video taped it right off the screen.

It took me hours but was really worth it. Among the films were my parents wedding and my brother and me when we very, very young.

I still have the film and I haven't treated it very kindly (in the garage, etc.) but my guess is that it would still run OK. Some of this film is nearly 70 years old! Eventually I hope to have that and a lot of other VCR tape transferred to some CD's.

I know my cousin took all their childhood reels in to be converted to VHS, several years ago. It was a real treat to see those again! I say give it a shot! :sunny:
