Hello - This year we will be travelling as a party of 6 instead of 5. Will this be a problem anywhere? Like are there any places that have restrictions on how many people can accompany a person in a wheelchair?

I do understand that some shows only have one or two seats next to the wheelchair space - that's ok. I'm more concerned about being split up in the lines.

We have only ran into this problem once as a party of five - at the handicapped viewing area for illuminations. The CM told us that we would have to have one member of my party stand outside of the area. :confused3 My kids were too young to stand alone and to small to push me so we found a different place to watch.

Thanks!!

You should be fine, as the pp said there's room for up to 6 on the GAC; but it does happen for fireworks viewing, some shows etc. that they only allow 1+ and then provide alternate seating, etc. A lot of it depends on how crowded the show is.

Many of the shows have the two back rows reserved for wheelchair/ECV seating. The back row itself has tghe spaces with seats next to the spaces, and the row immediately in front of that is for "overflow" from groups.

Thanks to all of you!! I feel better now:)

I'm still debating on getting a GAC or not. I can't do stairs - moving walkways really scare me too. I always feel like I'm so rushed to get in the ride vehicle.

I guess I'll just think about it some more.....

Thanks again everyone!:thumbsup2

Ok...so how strict are they with the 6 only?? I may be in guardianship of another child by the time we go - putting us up to 7 total. Am I going to have a major problem??

I'm not too concerned with shows and such, I'm used to having us split up for that.

My concern is being totally separate for rides, like the Safari, test track....rides where the handicapped access is separate.

I was up all night worried about this!!!

Can anyone help!!

It is usually a total of 6, but CMs have ability to make reasonable exceptions.
7 should not be a problem in most places; 10 would be.
If it is 2 adults and 5 children who are too young to be waiting alone, they will not separate you.
For Test Track and the Safari it will not be a problem. There are a couple of ride vehicles where there are only seats for 6. This is the case at Small World and in the boat at Mexico. If you will be in a wheelchair or one of the children is an infant that would be held on a lap, it will still work.

For Illuminations, you can actually find good places all along the railing along the water. The designated viewing spots at the entrance to World Show case are VERY busy and it is not unusual for them to limit to only one or 2 people per wheelchair/ECV.

If you are undecided about a GAC and have not read the disABILITIES FAQs thread information about GACs, I recommend checking it out in post 6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread (there is a link in my signature).

Test Track will be tricky, as only 6 people can ride in the vehicle.

Also, the moving sidewalk at Peter Pan cannot be slowed down, even if you have a GAC.

And the moving walkways at TTA can't be slowed or stopped; but all other attractions with moving walkways CAN be slowed or stopped if a Guest needs, and no GAC is required. All that's needed is one's verbal request.

If you have a wheelchair or ECV, you can request the moving walkway to be slowed or stopped (except Peter Pan and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority).
At attractions with moving walkways, guests with wheelchairs and ECVs board at the exit (usually after waiting in the regular line until just before boarding). When boarding at the exit, the CM can slow or stop the walkway.
YOu don’t need a GAC to board there with a visible reason, like a wheelchair or ECV. If you have no visible reason, you would need a GAC.

But, if you are walking on and entering thru the ‘regular’ entrance, my understanding is that the moving walkways can’t be stopped or slowed there.
