Question about NOT getting the park hopper

If we don't get the park hopper, can we come and go as much as we please as long as we stick to one park a day? In other words, if DD wants an afternoon nap, can we get back into the same park later on in the day?

We never get park hoppers because we have little ones and find that it's too much hassle for us. If we had older kids only-maybe, but we simply find a plan for that day and stick to it. If it's too crowded, that's unfortunate but oh well. The answer is yes, you can leave the same park and return to it later that day.

We don't hop either and yes, we occassionally return to the same park in the evening (but not every day - it is way too much with our young kids). We just consider that there is so much to see at every park anyway that we don't need to go to a different one - just return to the same one to see more.

You got it! You can leave the park as many times as you need and go back to the same park that day.

Keep this in mind. If you find that you want to park hop (with little ones you probably wont)you can add that feature on at Guest Service.

Last year when we went, we knew that we would want to park hop on one day out of the five we would be visiting parks. We always do a full day at MK and EPCOT and then an additional half day at each. Instead of paying extra for park hopper tickets, we purchased one additional day on our regular tickets. It cost like $2 a person to go from a six day to a seven day. On that day, we used one day in the morning and another day's worth in the afternoon.

To answer the OP, yes you can leave the same park and return later.

To the OP - I'm not sure why this would have worked for this poster but it does not work (or obviously everyone would do it since it is considerably cheaper and this too is why WDW doesn't allow this). On park tickets - you are scanned each day you go to a park and if you attempt to get into a different park on the same day you will be rejected (except maybe if they didn't scan you correctly or something the first time - again, not sure why this worked for this poster). You cannot use 2 days' worth of tickets in one day - it is not allowed and the system is setup to disallow it.

I was just addressing the issue of park hopping in general after reading the replies to the OP.

What I described did work on our trip last year; we had no idea that it wouldn't be allowed and no one said anything when we did it. We used our tickets when we got to the new park just like we had been all along. Now I'm nervous because we intend to do the same thing this year:confused: Where did you hear that this won't work?

I wouldn't count on it. Disney does not allow this.

If you go do a search on the THEME PARKS page - you will see several answers. I believe it is considered the #1 asked and answered question on these boards. One question for you....were these Magic Your Way tickets or old tickets from a previous trip? You used to be able to do this...not with the MYW tickets tho.

Did anyone ever confirm this with Disney? I used brand new MYW tickets last September. We went to AK in the morning and then EPCOT in the afternoon. We scanned all of our tickets (4 of us) at both parks and did the finger thing. No one said a word to us. The rest of our days worked just fine too, although that was the only day that we used two days in one. I am paying for seven days worth of tickets and using up seven days worth of tickets, so why shouldn't it work?

I have tried to confirm this with Disney, but I called 4 times and got 2 different answers....1 said yes so I was all excited, then the other 3 said no, so I guess that is the answer I am going with.:confused3

Not sure why it worked but I can tell you why it shouldn't. Otherwise Disney wouldn't be able to sell the park hopping option with the tickets...no one would do it if they could just add a day on for a dollar or two instead.

I guess I'll call too. Although people are here a swearing that it can't be done, and we did it without any idea that it was a controversial topic:eek:

I understand the concept someone posted about no one buying the park hopper option, but I will never pay for six days of park hopping privileges just to park hop on one day. I'm sure lots feel the same way, so no one is actually losing any money. I always bought the park hopper ticket in the past, but don't add it to the MYO tickets because it isn't worth it.

Actually - Disney would be losing money....if someone goes on a 5 day trip and wants to hop all 5 days...instead of paying the $40 per ticket to hop on all days - they could instead spend much less to buy the 10 day ticket and use those days (if it was allowed) to hop each day. And ESPECIALLY if someone is only going to hop one day - $40 for that priviledge is a lot - and way more than the $2 it would have cost - so Disney is losing that $38.

When you purchase a 7-day MYW base pass, you are paying for 7 separate days of admissions to one park per day. You are not buying 7 park admissions to be used multiple times within a day. Disney looks at it this way: If they make the passes cheaper for each additional day, then they get you into the park one more time where you will buy more food and souvenirs and maybe stay one more day at one of their resorts. If you were allowed to use that extra day to hop to another park, it defeats their purpose.

Cheshire Figment, a DISboard moderator and CM who works ticket sales, guest service and as a greeter at WDW, has answered this question for many DISers and he knows what he is talking about. [post=20318129]Check his answer here[/post]

In addition to the great info from Cheshire quoted above allears has a good faq on tickets and addresses this as well:

"Am I allowed to use two days off of my MYW Base ticket (non-hopping) if I decide I want to go to a second park on the same day as the first?

No you are not. The tickets are sold and the computer system is based on the number of days you have, not the number of park visits. Once you have used a non-park hopping ticket at any park, the computer system will not let you use it at another park on the same day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park you already went into later the same day."

I think Disney Family 1247 got lucky and the CM did an override to get them in the park when the turnstyle indicated they had been in another park that day witout the hopper. I have however seen people denied entrance and instructed to go back to X park or add the hopper feature.

OP - if you don't get the hopper option you can leave and return to the same park as many times as you like that day. You can also add the hopper option anytime during your stay if you decide you want to hop.

I have always got the park hopper option, but honestly last time we went to disney I hardly used it. We wanted to stay organized and finish everything at that park. So now in the future I will not be getting the hopper option. I think there is plenty to do in one park. The day we went to ak we hopped that night to a different park. But other than that we didnt use it. I will just use that evening after ak to visit DTD or a dinner show.
