Question about non-participating airlines

I was reading that if your airlines does not participate, you can still have your bags checked from your home airport to your room going down but not checked back home from your resort. My wife just got off the phone making our reservations for DME and she said the reservation CM told her if we used a non-participating airline, we had to handle our bags both down and back. What is correct?? We are flying Northwest out of Indy and would love to not have to handle my bags down if possible...smjj

The CM is mistaken.

There's no such thing as a particiapting airlines list for the overall DME service. There is only a particiapting airlines list for the optional Remote Airline Check-in feature, which only comes into to play for the trip back home.

It really is hard to believe that these CM's are still giving out incorrect info!!! Maybe they should be reading these threads. I feel badly for those poor people that are lugging their stuff off the carousel, then over to the bus, off the bus and into their rooms. Yikes. I think it's time for DME to stop using the word 'participating' if they can't give accurate info.

Until I read it here, I didn't know that I could use the resort check-in even if I didn't use DME. So, I could get rid of my stuff, use a towncar and not worry about lugging my stuff around MCO. Of course, I do fly one of those 'participating' airlines!!!

We just came back Sunday using ME with a non participating airline and the only difference is on the return trip you need to check your luggage and check in at your airline. The ME was very efficient. We arrived there were many ME people to guide you whe checked in and were put on a bus to BWI. From the time we stepped off the plane we were at our resort in 60-90 minutes. We had lunch walked around and went back to our room and our luggage was there. The whole experience was wonderful, I would recommend it. The return trip was also stress free.

ME welcoming area: "A" side lowest level of main terminal. Near bus berth no. 30, take a peek outside every now and then if you need to get your bearings once down at the lowest level.

OK, just to make sure I understand this. On your way back, you still check your luggage onto the ME bus, retrieve it at the airport from the bus and then checkin and check your bags yourself to home, right??...smjj

EXACTLY.

The driver will load and unload your luggage. If you're lucky and if you want to pay for it, you can get a skycap to help you with your luggage after it's taken off the bus. We did that, as we were 6 people with a lot of bags and a lot of ground to cover to get to the Spirit Airlines ticket counter.

NW was listed as a participating airlines and there are mixed reports. You might ask the employee in the resort checkin desk, you might get lucky.

For others reading this thread, SW sometimes has a special checkin area at level one. Ask before you drag your bags upstairs.

Travelling with ME and arriving at 9:30 AM, what are the chances that I would physically be in my room say by 11:30? Or will I have to wait until 4PM like everyone else?
