I remember reading some messages over the Summer indicating that there was a problem. At least some guests were prohibited from applying the value of admission purchased with a MYW package until after the check-out date. seashoreCM would know for sure.

I don't know about the summer, but last Sept we booked the free dining pkg with one day MYW tickets. I have an AP, so used it, but my mom and my ex both upgraded their one day tickets to 8 day MYW tickets without a problem. As soon as we checked in we went straight to guest services there in the resort and they upgraded their room keys.
Last May we bought eight day passes with the DDP and I wanted to upgrade mine to an AP. Guest services at the resort couldn't upgrade to AP. They told me I would have to go to guest services at a park or DTD to do it. I went to GS at DTD and it took just a few minutes.

To upgrade to an AP you must use all of your Dining Plan credits first, after that there is no problem doing so, providing your admission has not yet expired.

That seems odd, especially since mousesavers is reporting Disney has lengthened the maximum stay from 10 days to 14 while keeping the longest ticket you can buy with that package at 10 days. I imagine there will be people who buy the 14 day package with dining who are planning to upgrade their park tickets to AP's.
And I have a follow up question--if you buy a MYW ticket with water park/PI options as part of your package, on your last day can you convert that to an AP that doesn't include the water parks/PI (even if you've been to the water parks or PI)? Do they deduct the value of the water parks/PI option from your ticket value? I know there are people at DL in CA who buy parkhopper tickets to use during the holidays in December, then convert them at the end of their stays to AP's with blackout days. It's cheaper than buying the premium AP's, but they still get to go during the holidays.
Thanks Indy's Girl! That's kind of what I figured. We might use the water parks during the summer (1st visit--MYW package with parkhoppers), but wouldn't if we went back during the winter (2d visit--using converted AP's). So we'll just get the regular parkhoppers and pay OOP if we decide to do any water parks.

If I understand you correctly, I must use all of the dining credits first and then I can upgrade to an annual pass? What if I just couldn't use all of them by my depature time? And I will be at the hotel waiting to board the Magical Express Bus, where would it be possible to upgrade to the annual pass?
I am doing just this, 7 day MYM passes for Easter and then I am thinking that can get another trip planned, It might benefit me to upgrade everyone to an annual pass. DH will fly out a day early, so he will not even be with me and the children on our departure date.
I believe cmwade77's point was that at the time you upgrade to the AP, you will have to forfeit any remaining Dining Plan credits you have left. Is that right?
We did it, it was recommended to us we did it at the end, as it might muck up the credits on the room card that is altered. However, as only one of us was doing it that was not a problem.
We did not forfit any credits, but we were told if my card had to be replaced (if I lost it) I would not be able to access the credits at all. The other room card remained unaffected.
