Question about Murphy Bed in cabins

For anyone out there who has slept on the murphy bed, I am looking for some opinions on how comfortable this is. I was thinking of having the kids share the bedroom, and hubby and I would sleep on the murphy bed. Seems to make the most sense to me, that way we have the ability to watch tv alone at night and move about without disturbing the kids. Is this okay to sleep on or would anybody suggest bringing a featherbed or eggcrate for the top. Also wondering if it is a standard double bed as well. Hubby and I were laughing about this because he is a big old bed hogger....ya know the kind of thing where you wake up and you are seconds from crashing to the floor and have next to no blankets, here is hubby all wrapped up nice and warm and sprawled out!!! The more I think about this, I am having visions of sleeping in the van, maybe it will be easier. NO snoring either. Anyway, any opinions on this either way would be great.

It is a standard double and if he is a bed hog just be sure you sleep closest to the couch because it will prevent you from crashing to the floor! For me it wouldnt be very comfortable but all the other beds are.

9 more days!!

Thanks for info. Well we will see what happens. I can always sneak off into the kids room if it gets really bad. This will be an adventure...I am thinking! Have a great trip by the way!!! 9 days will be here before you know it

Is there any regional difference in a "double bed" size? Silly question maybe, but I found the murphy bed and the bed in the bedroom to be larger than any other double I've slept on here. It was very comfortable as well, I don't think you'll need anything for the top.

I found the Murphy Bed to be very comfortable. But as with any resort mattress, it has had its share of use. So if carrying an egg crate top isn't too great an inconvenience, I'd probably bring it. As for sharing....I like my space while sleeping. I also like to 'move about the cabin' after the dd's are asleep. I'd probably try it w/ DH and when that didn't work, move on in w/ the kiddos. Just my $.02!! :flower1:

well being 6'6 there is no way that i could share that murphy bed in the cabin. The Misses sleeps in the double in the back with DS andDD in the bunks. If you are tall or large people i dont think you would get a good night sleep.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. It's good to know ahead of time what to expect. That is the great thing about this board.

DH is 6'2" and I'm Pooh sized and we slept well on the Murphy bed. Probably helped by all the park walking. I LOVE the cabins.

My dh and I did what you planned last January. The murphy bed was EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

We are both shorter than average...to avoid having that painful bar on our back, we actually rotated ourselves 90 degrees. Our feet were supported by the sofa which is right next to the open murphy bed.

I am surprised by the responses here. It is NOT a mattress like on any other resort bed. It was more like a sofa bed mattess (if I remember correctly.) I remember dreading bedtime. We could feel each and every coil. I was so sore in the morning that I had to "roll off" the bed.

The bed is either a full (aka double) or a queen.

We are going next month and your post was a huge reminder that we need to re-evaluate our sleeping arrangements.

HTH!

Oops!! Pushed the wrong button! I'll find out in Dec. how good the murphy bed is!! :cool1:
