Question about Motion Sickness Sensitivities

I know pretty much everyone has said that meclizine does not work if you take it after you are dizzy, however it does for me. The very first time I had vertigo was years ago. I jumped out of bed one morning and wham I was on the floor throwing up and dry heaves for 5 or 6 hours non stop. I could not even lift my head, the room was spinning so much. This was when meclizine was prescription only. It took all that time for my doctor to phone in a prescription for me and for my husband to go pick it up. The first dose I took I threw up and then a little later I was able to keep one down and the vertigo eased a lot. I now take it at the first sign of feeling dizzy and it works great. Also it does not make me drowsy, however if my dd takes it , she practically falls asleep and this is on the non-drowsy one.

Scopalamine patch. Works great and I've never had side effects but its not OC. I e-mail my Dr and they call it in to the pharmacy for me.

I agree with the folks that say everyone is different. I've had motion sickness my whole life - and it's just terrible. But I LOVE rides - including coasters. For big regular amusement parks with huge coasters like Six Flags, Dorney Park, etc type places, I MUST take Dramamine, or suffer dire consequences. However, Disney is not so much an issue. I dont even take Dramamine with me. I can ride EE a few times in a row with no problems. No problems on ToT, RnRC, etc. However - Mission Space kills me. (And NO spinning rides, obviously.) Mission Space Green is sorta okay, but I decided to re-try the orange one two trips ago and I regretted it before the ride was even over. I could barely ride the bus back to the hotel - I was worried about throwing up the whole time. And again in the elevator at the resort - I had to stand next to the trash can outside the elevator for five minutes just in case. (Once the motion sickness kicked in, it was fully there for more than a good hour.)

Hopefully some of that info can help your friends. Even as a pretty hard core motion sickness sufferer, I'm usually okay on most stuff at DIsney, so they should hopefully be able to enjoy a bunch of stuff too.

Husband used Bonine-son works in a pharmacy part time and that was what the pharmacist recommended. He had no problems with drowsiness and rode everything he wanted.

I don't use any medicines. I stay away from anything that is a motion simulator ie Star Tours which I wish I could do or anything that spins around in circles ie tea cups. I can do roller coasters? it's weird if I am moving with wind in my face I'm ok.

This might sound crazy, but the thing that's always "evened me out" after riding Mission: Space - Orange Team is beer.

No beer for me. If I feel motion sick (which sometimes happens from the bus ride to/from the parks) I get a bottled iced tea with lemon. That helps. Disney gift shops sell it. I also carry lemon hard candy when I travel. If I'm just starting to feel bad, I have one of those.

I was given the patch once for outpatient surgery requiring anesthesia. When I got home, my mouth was extremely dry and I threw up anyway.

Personally, I skip the coasters and the simulator rides. I am extremely susceptible to motion sickness due to eye and ear issues. I'm happy just being at Disney World. I don't need to do the super headliner rides in order to enjoy my trip. So no drugs for me, except for the plane ride.

Last year my friends rode Big Thunder and Seven Dwarfs. I waited by the exits and managed to get pictures of them on the rides. That was fun for me.
