Question about MM and a possible rant about MS

Nope, the next res in the DVC-Y membership is 10/30

I suspect eligibility is, in practice, determined by "MDE identity". If that identity (a) owns a qualifying membership and (b) has a stay directly booked through MS, that's good enough, though I suspect it is not the intention of DVD.

Furthermore, I can imagine DVD not wanting to go to great lengths to "fix" it---it's a subtle enough difference that there is no real reason to tick off Members who might otherwise still eventually buy direct (unrestricted) points.

Weirdly, I got an early registration email for a res using resale points on my non DVC-Y membership. Is that normal?

Yesh because for MM, all that is required is that you are eligible, DVc Y, and have a reservation booked via your membership.

So, it doesn’t matter which one you used. Now, they could change that in the future to state that reservations must also be booked in a membership that is eligible, but for now, it doesn’t matter.

Do not touch it. Any modification after the deadline makes it null and void for early registration.

Well, that is what happened to me as I reallocated points.

This is wild! I didn’t add the rest of my families names to the reservation yet. So if I get moonlight magic tickets tomorrow and add their names it will cancel it? If so, I guess I need to just take my chances with general registration.

I called member services and botched this by not already adding the names . I’ll shoot my shot at general registration!

I got an email. They just said that since I only had my name on the reservation, I wouldn’t be able to register for more than one person and I wouldn’t be able to add more people later without losing the MM reservation. It’s not the end of world, but slightly disappointed in myself for not figuring out the exact details ahead of time. I did the name modifications right now and will try tomorrow just to make sure it doesn’t work, but it seems like we likely won’t end up at moonlight magic. There is an H20 glow party during our trip, so if we really want to have a similar experience, it is a problem that money could still solve in the end lol.

hmm hopefully those in the know can assist but that doesn't sound right. I thought you could register for 5 even if there is only one on the registration. MS also told me that not booking with direct points would only qualify me for general reservations not pre registration. People here on the boards are much more knowledgeable than MS.

Later last night, I read the rules for myself, and I read them as I should be able to register for 5 people without them needing to be on the reservation. I don’t know how modifying to add the names and reallocate points yesterday will affect the reservations eligibility, but the reservation number stayed the same.

Coming back to update! I changed my reservation to add names (I was still under the group party of 5 size) and reallocate points the night before the moonlight magic resort reservation registration day. My reservation number stayed the same after these changes. I was able to register for moonlight magic during the resort reservation window.

It worked because you only needed 5 and everyone, regardless of names on the reservation can have 5.

Had you needed more than 5, not having names would have been the issue…I should have clarified that earlier.

That makes sense! I had been told by member services that I wouldn’t only be able to get a reservation for more than 1 since I didn’t add them before, but it seems like I was just talking to someone who wasn’t very knowledgeable!

I called MS today and they said "I benefitted from a glitch" because I should not have been able to register 5 people since my qualifying studio reservation only had me listed.

I rebutted and said I correctly was able to register a max party of 5 but the CM still insisted that it was a glitch and told me to have all 5 names in the future by the posted deadline.

Interestingly, when I went back into my studio reservation on the DVC site, MS had added 4 people (3 adults, 1 child) to my reservation. So who did they add? They took the top 4 names alphabetically from my MDE friends and family list.

Honestly I think I wont be calling MS for anything unless I absolute have to at this point. I have seen so many bad stories on FB of them screwing people over lately and not taking any accountability for it. I feel like they got rid of everyone who knows the system and are left with people who have no idea how the system works and what any of the rules are.

I took that survey after the call and had no choice but to give them 5* for each question! Technically I received the desired outcome from my phone call and the CM was nice-- there wasn't a question about overall knowledge.

The only thing I can think of is that they changed the rules again?

General registration allows for up to 5 so early has always allowed the same.

Could the intention be that they want early to only allow number of guests added by deadline?

It wouldn’t seem to make sense to change it to that but then again, they by limiting those who get early access to only those in reservation, it does prevent just taking spaces and leaving more for general?

I think this is exactly it. I always take the allowable maximum 5 and then invite local friends or modify down later on.
