What time do they start serving breakfast? Can you get in before the park opens, like at Crystal Palace in WDW?

I'm not sure what time they start, but they do allow you in the park early for the breakfast. You just need to show them your tickets at the front gate and they'll let you know where to go. :thumbsup2

I would call the Disney Dining number to make your reservations, then ask what time they open.

Anyone have a comparison between the two places? Crystal Palace is our favorite at WDW, and we're thinking about doing Minnie's because it's in the park and has the Winnie characters.

We think it has some similarities - very similar decor. In our experience there are a lot more characters at Plaza Inn, and the character interaction is better. The food is more varied and probably better at CP (it's not bad at PI). And the servers get the food for you at Plaza Inn vs. self serve at CP. Also, there is outdoor seating at PI - we've been seated outside a couple of times.

The servers only get you the hot foods - eggs, bacon, potatoes, and made to order omelets and hand it to you. You don't get served at your table - it is self serve. You help yourself to waffles, fruits, breads, cereal, drinks, etc.

I ate at CP in Dec 2008 and Minnies June 09, Sept 09, Oct 09, Jan 10. I love it. I can't really remember much about my experience in CP. My daughter was 10 months and very frightened of the characters. In my opinion, it's very hard to mess up breakfast food, so I'm sure I loved CP too. I've had a lot of luck with characters at Minnies - usually around 10 or so have always made it through. I always get ressies for first seating on a Magic Morning so I can get in the park without a MM ticket (I have an AP). The picture they take of you is cute too. No character but when it's presented, there's a very nice Minnie photo on one side and yours on the other - you stand by a sign.
I've started to make Minnie's a tradition. I haven't had any of the others at the DLR...but I have had Ariel's for lunch, and it was yummy.

See my other post about the comparison. As for characters, here's who I usually see:

Minnie, Chip, Dale, Capt Hook, Max, Eeyore, Alice, Mad Hatter, Tigger, Pooh. The last time (Jan 10), there was hardly any patrons and Chip & Dale became quite a nusiance -they wouldn't let us eat!

I *think* they normally open an hour before park open... at least it was that way last summer and they would let you into the park early if you were going to eat there.

I will basically echo what everyone else has said... the food at Crystal Palace might be a little better but Minnie's still had pretty good food (for a Disney buffet... we find the quality at most of the WDW buffets a bit lacking with the exception of Crystal Palace and Boma... but the "normal" quality at DL is better than at WDW so Minnie's has better food than say Chef Mickeys... just not quiet as good as CP). The characters are much more varied at Minnie's and also the interaction is much better... there aren't as many rules for the characters in Disneyland and they aren't rushed from table to table like they are at WDW.

We ate there last summer and really enjoyed it and plan to return this summer :)

This is a great thread to get more info on Character Dining:

Thank you so much for posting that link!!:goodvibes You read my mind! It really is a wonderful thread with so many great photos from Minnie & Friends and the other character meals (not so much from Surf's Up with Mickey yet, as that is still new, but we'll get those from people eventually!).

I have not yet done the Minnie & Friends meal, but judging by the photos I see, it looks like the characters are up to crazy shenanigans at Minnie's. I know that in one case, one of our DIS-ers, WazowskiLOVER, was dining at Minnie's with her group, and the Mad Hatter came over to cause mischief. He had them all put teacups (fake ones) on their heads and walk around in circles until the cups fell off!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

typically, if you have a reservation, the earliest reservation you can get is 7am. and if you come next week, let me know, i'm there 3 days! in fact, i'm working all breakfast shifts this week at various places. so let me know if you are coming :)
