We are going the end of August and our tickets include 1 fun day. We wanted to try DisneyQuest but now that it is going to be closed, we will go to miniature golf one morning when it first opens up. We could go to a water park but we are staying at YC and the pool is extensive.

Anyone "love" the miniature golf at WDW? Is there anything special about it? Which course is closest to YC? Is it shaded at all? How long does it usually take?

Thanks for any advice.

Fantasia gardens would be the closest and actually has 2 courses. 1 that looks like an 18 hole course, and the other that has a more whimsical theme:

Fantasia Gardens is located within the Epcot Resort area, across from the Disney Hollywood Studios. The courses are within walking distance of Disney's BoardWalk Inn, Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Hotelsand the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. It's open from 10 am to 11 pm, seven days a week.

Fantasia Gardens and Fairways is within walking distance. We haven't done it since my kids were little but we generally stayed at BC/YC back then and walked. It is behind the Swan. There are two courses-one is more challenging. We only did the one geared towards young kids/families. It was very cute. I would say it took about an hour. On non park days we would start the morning at mini golf then have lunch and ice cream at Beaches and Cream and then rent the surrey bike and ride around the Boardwalk area. It was a great way to take a break from the parks and my kids enjoyed it every year for quite a while. I don't remember much shade, we take our trips during late fall and winter so it was not an issue.

We love the WDW mini golf courses. Fantasia Gardens course is more subtle but still fun. Winter Summerland is more obviously fun, very colorful and silly. We like them both but probably like Winter Summerland better (there are two courses there too). I think Winter Summerland is outside of/next to Blizzard Beach. I don't recall that Fantasia Gardens was that close to BC/YC, might be a bit of a walk from there but not terribly far.

We walked to fantasia gardens from BC. We only did the fun side, and with 4 terrible adult golfers not above cheating, and a hyper-competitive 4 year old, we were there about an hour.
We did it during the evening, it was very fun.

If you want fun and scores way below par, Winter Summerland would be nice. But, from your location, Fantasia is the best one. As stated, the Gardens is the typical miniature golf layout and it's a lot of fun and a bit competitive. The Fairways, well, let's just say that my husband and I, who know golf (we actually watch it on TV and we've both played in leagues), gave up after about five holes and just said, to heck with it. However, my father-in-law and brother-in-law, who know what a golf club is but have never played, loved it. For the Gardens, I'd say at least an hour. For the Fairways, double that.

You asked about shaded - you can easily walk to Fantasia and see it before you play but we think it's shaded enough.

I'd still do a water park. The YC pool is one of the best, but it doesn't compare to either water park.

As others have said, you can walk to the Fantasia course. I would suggest going when it opens as, even in August, the lines build through the day, particularly as most packages include mini-golf passes that need to be used prior to 4 pm. No, there isn't a lot of shade, so the earlier the better or go in the evening just knowing there may be a line and wait time. You could also uber over to WinterSummerland which is far more fun IMHO, but, again, go at 10 am before the lines and blazing heat.

And don't discount a water park!!! The YC/BC pool is nice but simply does not compare to what you will find at BB and TL!
