Hello everyone,
I am new to the board...although I have been watching for a while...
I am going on my first disney cruise ever in Jan 2007. I have a DS age 5 and DD age 3. Will my son be able to go on the slide? It is safe----? Do you land in a deep pool at the end of the slide? He is still working on the swimming concept. Thanks. :Pinkbounc

Our youngest son was 4 on our first cruise. The slide is very safe, they land in a shallow basin at the base of the slide, not in the pool and you can stand there to watch and collect them.

As long as your five year old is 38 inches tall, he will be allowed. My five year old is tiny and might not reach that minimum height.

Here is a pic just to give you an idea

How do you get to the top of the slide? Do you go up the stairs at the bottom and walk around? I'm really concerned about my DSs getting distracted on the way and falling overboard. We may have to station parents/grandpa along the way. :thumbsup2

No, that staircase leads up to deck 10, not to the slide.

My 6-yo DD tells me that the stairs to the slide lead only to the slide, not to deck 10. I was always busy watching my 2-yo, so I can't vouch for that.

The first photo shows it better, the stairs are right to the left side of Pluto's and only leads to the slide. There is usually someone up there to make the kids wait until a kid is all the way down before they let another one slide.

Once he know where to go, he will be fine to find it himself. It is a little winding staircase...and hard for an adult to go and then walk down with all the kids racing to come up.

My little girl is 36ish inches tall...I guess I am going to have to buy her some elevator sandals. :goodvibes

Make sure you grab a photographer (they're all around the pool on sea days) to have them get a picture of your child. My ds5 didn't want the slide when the photographer was there and then of course when he left, ds5 went down. You can take your own picture, but I wanted one really good one.

It is, in case you can't tell, a rather tall slide. Although it isn't too wild, its scary enough (up two flights) that my four year old elected to skip it until the last day, when she went over and over and over again.

It is just for kids - your kids will have to go down alone. But, as was said, it dumps into functionally a puddle.

Just make sure if they are playing in the pool not to take your eyes off them for even a second. It was VERY crowded one day and my attention diverted to sun-blocking up my other child and I looked up and my 4 year old was not there!!! I almost had a heat attack. :scared1: I ran around like a crazed fool and it only had taken her maybe 5 seconds to get out of the pool and dash to that staircase. That was her first time on it. She loved it!!! She must of went down 30 times!!!

Another tip I learned the hard way: Just make sure your child has good balance. My son went on it when he was 3 1/2 last September and wasn't able to keep himself upright when the slide twists since he got going really fast. As a result, he swallowed lots of water and came off the slide choking. It terrified him, so he didn't go on it again.

Little dude is not that great of a swimmer and really does not like big drops, but he gave it a try and kept going and going....The wait area gets crowded and you can lose sight of them until they get to the top of the take off area...

The slide for them is pretty fast, but once they get to the bottom, they slow up becasue it does level out...

The end...As you can see he slowed down significantly and was able to stand...

DS is definitely past the 38" height requirement but is only 3 - any chance he'll get to try out the Mickey slide? He has seen the pictures and keeps talking about how much he wants to go down the "Mickey swide". I'd like to know what others experiences have been on recent cruises.

The slide attendant doesn't ask EVERY kid for his or her age. If you give it a try, just be prepared for the possibilty that your son could be asked.

Is there an age requirement?

From DCL's website:

The slide is for ages 4 to 14: maximum height 64", minimum height 38".
