Question about MBs for future visit

We are going back to the World next November, which trip I was only too happy to book. But I thought it a very curious thing when they told me to personalize a new set of Magic Bands for this future trip! I was under the impression we would be using the ones we just used for this trip we just came home from, for at least a couple of years. Is this no longer true, do we need new bands for a trip less than a year away?
