Hello all…New member here…just got 160 points for BLT :yay::yay: I am planning on going to WDW in April 2015 and I have a couple of questions. I have 160 points from 2013, and I'll get another 160 on December 1st of this year. My plan is to book a 1 bedroom, Lake view at 11 months out, which is next month. I would be very happy with this choice, however, another scenario is that at 7 months, I could try to change it to BCV 1 bedroom. This would save me a bunch of points that I could use for another future trip, and I think I would also be very happy with staying here, as I have stayed here previously. Would I be able to check the availability of BCV at 7 months without losing the reservation I had already booked? And if it's available, could I just change the reservation, as opposed to canceling and then making a new one?

Thanks…still trying to learn the ropes and you have all been so helpful!

yes.

no. you'd have to cancel and rebook.

if it's that close to being available, even if you lose it you should be able to pick it up by waitlisting.

just make sure you free up current year pts that can be banked forward to the next UY. (should be automatic, but it's good to make sure.)

Bank your 2013 points before the end of July if you haven't done so already.

Why aren't you trying for a Standard view room? It might end up being the same number of points as BCV. If you don't get the Standard view, I'd WL immediately after booking LV. Then at 7 months try to switch to BCV if your WL doesn't come through. That's if the whole point is to save points. Obviously if you really want to stay at BCV, then it's a mute point.

FYI - those 2014 points are already in your account, along with 2015 & 2016. All points use is by date of stay and the use year it falls into.

This will sound crazy…lol…but if I'm at BLT, I feel like I need a good view…hoping even to catch a glimpse of the fireworks if we're lucky. But having no view at BCV doesn't bother me for some strange reason!

Could you please explain this more? I see the 2013 and 2014 points there, but nothing else?? Thanks!

Points are loaded automatically, it doesn't matter if you see them, they will be there.

What matters is that the points are available at the time of your stay, not when you book the reservation.

On the member website, go to My Membership, then Vacation Points. Under total vacation points, you should see:

December 2013
December 2014
December 2015
December 2016

I brought it up because a lot of new members think points "deposit" when the use year starts and they are not available before then. Not true.

Thanks to everyone for their help…I can't wait until this totally clicks for me…I feel stupid asking so many questions!

Don't feel stupid. A lot of new members have the same questions. That's why us "veterans" are here!
