Question about maintenance on a resale.

"Renting" the points thru MB is very simple and is just applied to the purchase price. "Renting" them to someone else does require some effort, patience and negotiation. Your banked points MUST be used by Nov. 30, 2002...and you don't even have them yet to try to rent. You will have access to them in about a month with the resale.

You have chosen to look at the banked points as extra points- if you were comparing a Dec Use Year thru DVC to this resale, they would be extra points. As it is, they are merely points received 8 months before the Aug 2001 Use Year likely thru DVC. You might even be able to find an earlier use year thru DVC (you might ask them) which would further negate the banked points as an advantage.

We have often discussed here what advantage a direct sale has over resale. The only real advantages for the DVC sale are immediate use of the points and a few tokens from the sales department (tote bags, canvas folio). The advantage with a resale is to buy at BWV or OKW and/or to get a better price. In this situation, you will have none of the DVC advantages and no resale advantage- since you will actually pay more for the same number of points in the contract.

As said before, this is not a bad deal, but is not any better than a direct purchase.

Good Luck!

Hi guys, I saw another opportunity - how do you think it compares?

VWL resale, Dec use year, $65 per point, Dec 2001 points available, no banked points, pick up the maintenance starting with the bill in Jan. Bottom line, $9750 plus closing costs and transfer fee (about $10,275 total) for 150 points. Less than thru DVC, but a later use year.

Decent, or do you think a direct DVC purchase would be better? As always, I appreciate your thoughts :).

It's a better deal assuming the dec 2001 points are intact and you're not paying additional maint fees to the seller. I know your post covers these issues but I'd double check them.
