I've never done this before and have a few questions. I have 10 points for this use year that have to be used by June 1 2011 and can not be banked.
A friend of mine is planning a short 3 night trip in September. My thought is to have her book a reservation using my points for the first night, and then she can book a cash reservation for the other 2 nights. And, then I'm assuming the 2 reservations can be linked so that she can remain in the same room. How do we go about doing this?

first - unless your friend is a DVC member - she cannot make the reservation - you have to.

second - I think the only unit that you can book for that few points is a studio at OKW during the off peak season. I believe they are 9 points for a Sun - Thur stay

Since the points cannot be transferred to another member only you can make a reservation using the points. You could make a one night reservation in her name and also the two cash nights and MS can link them all together. You would not need to pay anything for the cash reservation - she would just pay for it at arrival. If she is a memeber, she can make the cash reservations and ask that they be linked with the reservation made by you.

Sounds like a nice way to help a friend. :)

Thank for the replies. FYI - AKL is only 9 points for standard view. I've found AKL to be the cheapest pretty much all the time.

Just to emphasize, the cash reservation would need to be made through MS if you want to have it linked with the points reservation. I don't believe that a cash reservation through CRO can be linked with a points reservation. Sometimes there are great discounts through CRO 9even better than the member discount), so it is something to keep in mind.

I think you mean a value studio at Jambo House for 9 points or 10 points for a standard villa during the Adventure Season in 2010.

It would be nice if you could make a reservation for your friend for the one night and a great use of leftover points.
